Stand with your feet about shoulder or hip width apart, feet parallel to each other, facing forward. Bend your knees. Keep your hips tucked underneath your spine, and your back straight. Tuck your chin in a little, and hold your hands out in front of you, bent some at the elbow and wrist, palms facing you, fingertips pointing towards each other. Close your eyes and hold the posture for five minutes, if you can. Try working up to an hour (it may take you a very long time before you can do an hour).

I might have left out a few details. Oh yeah, and while you do this posture, relax as much as possible. Breathe into your gut instead of into your chest. Try not to think of anything.

cold water dousing=
Ideally twice a day walk outside an dump a five gallon bucket of the coldest water you can get from the tap over your body

OK, this is my second attempt to post this. I wrote a small book for you Kristoffer, but when I went to send it I was bumped offline and lost it all.

Bucket size= the same average bucket you would use to mop the floors in your house. Any larger and it will be difficult to invert when you get it over your head.

Practice= While wearing a bathing suit, take bucket outside, splash a little of the water on your arms, chest, and rub a little on your face.
Take a deep inhalation as you raise the bucket, tilt your head back and pour. Make sure you exhale as you poor or you will nearly drown as the water pours down your nose. Set bucket down and inhale deeply while expanding your thorax and lifting your arms to the side (repeat this post douse breathing for three cycles)

Benefits= heightened immune system, sense of internal heating (that is the chi building), tempering against the effects of cold weather, revitalizing energy boost that lasts much longer than the shock, cleansing of bad chi.

Caveats= a)This should be doen while standing on a natural outdoor surface (ie. grass or soil). The negative energy drains along the pour line out through your feet. On a nonpourous artificial surface, the bad energy will pool and store in your lower extremities unless you walk it out immediately. b)a cold shower is not the same thing. water collected in a container builds an energy charge of its own (as it was explained to me). If it is really cold out, make sure you have somebody waiting to open the door to your house for you or save a little water for the following crisis: if it is too cold your hand will stick to the doorknob. pour a little water on the point of contact and you will be freed, otherwise you will be stuck to the outside of your door soaking wet in the freezing cold.

origin of practice= this exercise is a staple of Sokoli Stalina Systema and is performed once in the morning and once in the evening every day. Before you dismiss it as “un-Asian” or not kung fu, consider how many times we have heard or seen Asian masters meditating, performing forms, or doing other training exercises under a freezing waterfall or in some other cold body of water.

For more information go to www.russianmartialart.com
click on Forums / go to the Health methods forum / look for any info on dousing / one member has built a web page deicated to this single exercise complete with photos (Phil-osophy of Dousing) I believe that was what it was called.

P.S. Also regularly fast to build internal power and discard negative energy. Once a week from 6pm to 6pm (24 hrs.) with no food or water ideally. You won’t die, and you get acclimated to it. Illnesses and negative energy are initially weaker than healthy tissue and organs and good chi. If you fast regularly, the practice will kill off the malady and drain off the bad energy before it develops a foothold in your body and gets stronger. Only the good will survive the fast!

stranger - interesting practice there.

BTW, what do u think about vegetarianism?

The only meat I consume is seafood. I can’t go off of it. I guess growing up on the shore makes it an essential part of my diet.
No Beef, Bird, Swine, or Game since Spring 1997.
