What do you want!?

I guess everyone wants different things out of practicing WC. while reading another thread i saw a comment by our local ‘sh!t stirer’ Whipping Hand, he said:
“Because we’re not on the same path.”

Which got me thinking, “well maybe so but we all have the same goals”. Then rethinking again i thought…“probably not”.

I see some people who train for 10 years who seem to be happy after reaching a certain skill level; then no longer strive to improve any further. Is this you goal? or do you want to become a sifu? or finish the system for other reasons?..or somthing different altogether??

So what do you want?..do we have any future sifus here amongst the KFO community?.. anyone got any plans to put out some videos on “becoming a master in 3 easy steps”?

I think for me, I learn Wing Chun to help me grow, and I will always be growing, and so will always study Wing Chun. I will probably go to teaching at some point, but only a few students, and only after I definitely feel confident in my ability to teahc what I understand. For now, I practice for self improvement. I have learned a lot about myself since I started.

~3-4 years of hard training

what to get out of it?

confidence where I can go anywhere, and say everybody here can not compare physically with me.

helps a lot in everyday life

I want to be a hit man

When I first started in 1986 it was just for self defense. I wanted the security of knowing I had a chance if a self-defense situation came up in an emergency.

I took several private lessons and then quit.

Also, I’ve always wanted to learn how to use the pole since my teenage years. But all this was low priority due to life - college, commitments, marriage, work.

I started Wing Chun again in April 2000. It’s probably the maturity factor or stability of my life but now Wing Chun isn’t just for self-defense. It’s personal growth. It’s learning about my stiff Westenized obese body and slowly hammering it into a soft flexible body.

I’ve been going into the chi gung aspects and I’ve started considering Wing Chun an intellectual exercise - what can I do with the forms, how does it apply?

I have nothing to prove to anyone. It’s starting to become a personal journey. I was in a rush last year but now I’m taking it slow. I’m not impatient - at least not too much.

I hope life’s path allows me to continue Wing Chun. I find it fascinating and I keep learning all the time.

All this wordiness for a few simple answers:

  1. Confidence that I can defend myself in an emergency
  2. Calm my mind
  3. Learn a martial art
  4. Understand and shape my body, joints, ligaments
  5. Have fun learning
  6. Grow
  7. Have a hobby
  8. Be with other people of like mind

That’s just a few.

If hand itches, you’re going to get something.

If head itches you’ve got it.

Does it make any sense?

no

hmm… the being able to kick ass part dosnt seem to be he main reason some of u guys r studying WC.
The way I see it, is that any thing else that i get out of my WC training other then ass kicking ablities is just a bonus. Because when u get down to it, thats all WC is really about… So how many of u guys would keep studing even if WC was some fairy MA art like uhh… tai chi(the dancing around ****y kind style of tai chi)
