WC take-downs

How many take-downs do you practice in your WC? How much do you focus on it?

well

i like the “fun gerk” break the knee take down, does that count?

I kinda like the “punch in the face takedown” or maybe the “kick in the groin takedown” how about “the fingers to the throat” takedown or maybe the…

Ooooooh! I love takedowns!!

Biu Tze’s huen bo (circling leg) movements are some of my favorite to practice, and they set up some nasty takedowns and slams, especially from a clinch.

Also, Chum Kiu’s pai jarm movements, when set up with good footwork, can tear a guy off his feet and put him down hard. Huen Gerk, Jut Gerk, and Sew Gerk can be used to disrupt the opponent’s balance base (if not outright tear his legs out from underneath him) while you press or pull with your hands (depending on where his body is trying to move).

There are a lot of things you can get creative with.

Did I mention I like takedowns?

Not to weary of teaching is benevolence.

i practice four diffrent takedowns, one for each position the foot can be in. inside frontal, outside frontal, inside diagonal and outside diagonal…they flow for one to any other depending on the person…the “hinge” being the knee…

There’s some nice takedowns using the elbow that can be taken from Chum Kiu.

As many that come my way. They must be opportune, not created situations.
