have any of you practice under water, not in sucba gear but in a pool chain punching or kicking for that matter…ive heard that it could triple your speed, but i dont trust what i hear, i also heard whipping hand knows wing chun, lol…

jean claude van damme does it ![]()
and since he’s such a hardcore guy, i think we should all do it too! haha well, look at him in bloodsport and kickboxer…isn’t he amazing?
Only David Carradine’s better ![]()
Seriously though, I don’t know…it sounds cool but how could it triple your hitting speed? If anything, it should slow it. Air practice such as shadowboxing CAN DEFINITELY increase speed. Water, I highly doubt although it could improve your forms since you’re fighting against resistance and it makes you pay particular attention to each technique
it would also seem to be a good way to build up strength and muscle power without causing damage to the tendons.
And if Jean Claude Van Damn does it then it must be cool…lol
Muhammed Ali was photographed sparring rounds in chin deep water.
Frank Shamrock rehabilitated his knee by kicking in a pool.
I don’t get mad.
I get stabby.
Fight on land…train on land. (unless you have a habbit of picking fights in pools!)

I absolutely agree ![]()
The only reason to fight in a pool would be if you have injured yourself and can’t support your full weight on steady ground.
Wing Chun is h o l l y
in van damme’s movie Lionheart, he fought in a pool ![]()
so we should train that way too! ![]()
underwater training
Simpleangles,
I don’t know about tripling hitting speed but you will definitely get faster. Think about it, which gives the most resistance - air or water? I did a study one semester for some Kinesiology guys working on their Master’s. I went agua jogging several times a week in the diving well. They tested my 400 meter time(on the track), my endurance until failure on the treadmill and in the pool, before and after the jogging training. All 3 categories improved. Jogging in the pool is definitely less stressful on the joints and their conclusion was that it is just as beneficial strength/cardio wise. Try it for yourself.
my problem with doing anything in the water is that i have a tendancy to float
so when i try running its nto very successfull cuz i dont have much contact with the bottom of the pool :0
anyhow, how did you overcome this problem? weighted vests or something of that nature?
peace

if you never get into a fight,
you can never be defeated,
if you can never be defeated,
you are invincible
I recently weent camping in NY along the Deleware, and I practiced SLT and CK in the water. It was really cool. Much different to maintain balance, and try to keep rooted while practicing the techniques. I would say try it, just beacuse it was kind of fun. Peace.
underwater
yeah, I guess that is and important piece of info. We used a “floatation device” kind of like a back brace that you velcro around your waist and fasten in front of you but it was made of material that would suspend you in the water. For punches, I would use ankle weights if needed.
