Time in Tai Chi

Hi everybody. I’ve been considering studying Tai Chi and was wondering how long it takes to become proficient at it. Now, I know that the length of time really depends on the instructor and the student, but I’ve heard that it usually takes eight years to learn. Is there any truth to this? Thanks.

Just do it Bud. You’ll get as many different answers as posters with a question like this. Go see Wah Lum Choi on Irving Park. In a couple of years you’ll be kick’n butt. If I told you 8 years, would it stop you from doing it? I would say with a good teacher, about a year to learn it and about a year more to fight but more than a lifetime to master. What else do you have to do with the rest of your life?
