So whats your kwoon Christmas party like?
We all eat out at the chinese rest.I get the chicken and broccoli an eggroll and a bottle of some kind of chinese beer(Nasty).I don’t know what the hell my sifu got but it wasn’t meat,he doesn’t eat meat.
Then it’s back to the kwoon for coffee, cake, tea, wine and beer.We hang out and talk and I get to meet fellow students I don’t really know from the day classes(the people that work 2nd and 3rd shift). It’s cool we have a few beers and start showing off our M.A. skills. After I have a few I become Super Kung Fu Man, all in good fun.
But it does feel weird at first parting in the kwoon.
It’s good that your kwoon promotes this type of atmosphere.
It is like this in many kwoons, in fact, your experience sounds almost exactly the same as where I attended.
was that beer Tsing Dao? because it gets spoiled on the trip over to the west quite often and it is hard to get it fresh. ![]()

The last session of the year at my school consists of a final grading (quite often an instuctor level grading at this time, during which about twelve people get to spar the subject one after another) followed by a school meeting where my Sifu reviews the past year, says a few thank you’s, draws the winning ticket in one of the many raffles we have for charity, and names the male and female Student of the Year who are each presented with a trophy.
Then we all go to a nearby pub and destroy it ![]()
Sifu also has a smaller get together for senior students, usually catered at a function room in a hotel or similar.
My handle was AbMan before the forum move unmasked me
We just have abig BBQ and eat ourselves silly.
We have a dinner party at the kwoon and everyone brings a dish. Then awards (student of the year, etc.), the year in review, presents and music. Beer and wine flow like you don’t know. Then dancing, forms done in a dancing manner, and drunken sparring (light and fun) and after that we hit a local bar to get really ridiculous in. But not too ridiculous, cuz class is early the next morning!
