After missing many chances to meet Sifu Redmond, my schedule finally clicked and I was able to drive from Buffalo to Toronto on Saturday to attend the seminar by Sifu Redmond & Sifu Kennedy. Both sifu’s as well as the students were very open & nice people. I was the only “outsider” and they didn’t hold that against me (except for the sparring session
All jokes aside I had a good time and highly recommend anyone in the area to think about attending any other seminars Sifu Redmond does in Toronto. I come a from a different lineage of WC (and I have not practised for about 3 years). Sifu Redomond pointed differences in TWC and the version I know. He never put down one style vs another. He did reveal the WC secret to me…are you ready…there are no secrets
The session consisted of techniques that one might employ in “real life” Jabs, hooks, sucker punches etc. After two hours of blocking, parrying, sidestepping etc, the sparring sessions started (I’m not sure if Sifu Redmond plans on posting the videos). The sessions - one round for 2 minutes - were fun, but draining (at least for my out of shape arse). Anyway, in summary, good seminar, with very good people, in a great city!!!

Thanks for the non-partisan review of the seminar. I think this shows that if people can resist the urge to get hung up on lineage, we can all learn something from each other. I’m sure that we could all gain a lot from being exposed to different points of view on Wing Chun and become better martial artists if we approach these types of events with an open mind.
Props to Phil and Ryan for letting an “outsider” share in the learning process.

I have close friends in other WC lineages that can throw down. I don’t see good WC people as “outsiders”. If we worked together we can get rid of the image people have of WC.
