Hi Edward - it states on his website that he received a letter of recommendation and blessings from Augustine Fong to teach his style of Wing Chun. It also states that he is the only representative of Fong’s Wing Chun in NYC, and that he is a member of Fong’s Wing Chun Gung-Fu Federation.
Are you sure? Sounds pretty official.

hate to start trouble, but that letter is bullsh_t… if you look at sifu fong’s website… he clearly states that he has never ever endorsed any outside line at all. what you teach is your own wing chun.

Edward is correct. Grados is not a recognized Fong instructor.
He has been to Tucson for a Fong seminar and he has had master Fong up in NYC for giving a seminar. I have met him.
he teaches his own mix. But he is no slouch as a “fighter”..
However, what people say in their ads and what may be the case are not always the same. if all ads were true America would be a different kind of place.

Nothing personal against Grados. He is a good “fighter”.
Ed’s and my point also is that many people claim that they are in the Fong “lineage” and that term has become very loosely used.
In kung fu its become very common to jump into teaching.
Augustine Fong is very very careful about who he regards as being in his “lineage”. And no one "represents’’ him. See his website for his own statement on the subject.

and being a good fighter means nothing at all… how hard is it to use center line punch against most people… freak, i could teach christoper reeves center line punch and he’ll be able to run people over…

Has anyone ever trained with or under him? What do people think of his methods, and training etc… I ask because I saw his website, and although flashy, seemed to me he knew what he was talking about.

If Yip Man was around to issue disclaimers on people who claim to have learned from him directly- some ranks would thin out fast.
