I know this was a topic long ago on the mailing list, but i let it go by. Is there anyone practicing mantis from the line of Master Shakespeare Chan?

Chan Sifu

Chan Sifu no longer teaches preying mantis and is in the toy business. I believe nearly all of his students are still in the Philippines. One of the most well-known in the Philippines is Alexander Co, but I have never seen him move yet. His other students I have heard hid other students are learning from a new teacher. BTW, are you from the Philippines?

Hi Jason,

Mr Chan was a student of Chiu Chi man, so his line would be the Chiu Chi Man line. His student Alex Ko has put the Muy Fa Kuen on tape as well as some other non mantis material. They are advertised in Inside Kung Fu and other mags. I believe they are put out by unique enterprises the publishers of IKF.

Sifu Carl, good to hear from you.

No, I’m not in the Phillipines. My Si-Gung’s Sifu stayed in PI between living in Taiwan then the USA. It is said he studied with Sifu Chan while there, I was wondering what, if any, influence there was on our style.

Hi again,
I check the magazine and Alex Co has two mantis tapes. One on Sup Baat Sao and the other on Muy Fa Kuen. The other tapes are on five family fist. So you can see his movements played in these sets. The ads are in most martial arts mags.
