Hey guys, here’s the pictures of the wooden dummy I built. I said I’d post it a long time ago but I never got around to it.
Well, enjoy ![]()

Very nice work IronFist! How did you make the body, and how much did it cost you total, if you don’t mind me asking?
Ironfist
Thank you for sharing.
I just mean is the body a laminate or a log.
kungfucowboy- The body looks to be pvc probably 8 3/4" - 9" diameter
Ironfist- Could I inquire where you ordered the arms and leg from?
By the way VERY nice work!
Hey, thanks for the compliments, guys. To answer your questions, the total cost was probably around $250 for everything. The body is 8" diameter Schedule 80 PVC pipe. 8" pipe has an outside diameter for 8.625 inches, so it’s just the right size for a wooden dummy. The arms and leg came from Asheville Woodcrafters; their site is www.wooddummy.com.

Sweet…
Nice job Ironfist.
Did you build the frame yourself?
Matrix
Whats with the mini table and chairs?
haha
Ironfist is only three feet tall…he needs them to reach the dummy!!! ![]()
I designed and built the frame. My dad helped a bit tho, cuz he’s good at building stuff. ![]()

Dam.n, who told you
No, actually they’re my sister’s from when she was younger, but they’re kind of too big to put into storage so we just left them in the corner of that room.

Is there anyway I could get you to email me the exact specs for your dummy? I have the same pvc but don’t have the arms or leg yet plus I’ll have to make the stand. One more thing about how tall are you? This will really help me out if we’re about the same height if not I could modify your measurements.
There is no way in hell you need a dummy at this point of your “training”.
You have no idea what to do with it.
It is mighty nice though ![]()
Hah
You wish! I rule! I don’t know the form yet but that doesn’t mean I can’t work techniques and stuff with it. That’s kind of like saying a boxer isn’t ready for a heavy bag until X months into his training.
IronFist
er… if you say so.
I disagree sharky. The dummy “can” be learned as soon as footwork is solidified, which is usually by the Chum Kiu form. You may not be able to use all the dummy forms or applications yet but you can benefit from the jong as soon as you can use internal energy and have solid footwork. Just my 2c.
Ask ironfist if he thinks that he can use " internal energy " properly and has " solid footwork ".
Ask him about his tuition.
Sharky
Understood, I have no idea about ironfists skills or progress in winch chun I was just trying to make a general statement.
Hi Ironfist,
Not bad at all. Good job on the dummy.
thanks ![]()

Ironfist. Sweet dummy. Should have some more space behind it so you can practice sneaking up behind your opponents with lightning footwork…
!
And given that you are still working slt, I would say it has limited use, but given that you have had to take an unusual route anyway, it’ll be pretty cool when you do start working the feet, which you may have to do earlier than most. Happy experimenting!
