This may be a little similar to the thread started by choke, however… I have started to do bagua standing qigong, holding each of the 8 palms for three minutes to get a total of 24 minutes. After standing yesterday my little finger on my left hand became very numb, it’s not a particularly pleasants feeling. This numbness vanished overnight but returned today after an hour of taiji practise. Anyone got any ideas? Is it an expected bodily reaction? Thanks in advance.![]()
Perhaps you should rub your hands together for a minute, including rubbing the tops of your hands for a minute as well before each practice. If your hands are normally tense and the practices are “Relaxing them” then you could be experiencing the shift between the tense and relaxing which can cause discomfort. I would suggest talking with a teacher if the problem continues.
Hmm
Could be Liver Blood deficiency or a channel problem with the Small Intestines.
Thanks guys. I stood in wuji last night instead of standing with arms raised and this removed the numbness, replacing it with a nice full feeling. If the sensation returns would people recommend consulting an accupuncturist?
I’d stick to your practice before consulting healing work. Accupuncture is a very acute type of healing and should be consulted if absolutely necessary. The tools of chi kung, wuchi standing for instance will promote the qualities within yourself that you are looking for. Accupuncture may or may not work, however I think ultimately it is best to work through these rather small issues on our own and leave accupuncture for something of greater need.
I think also it would be of a value to you to use your practices as an opportunity to experiment with your body/reactions. That way you can see of wuchi standing alone is enough to help you overcome this particular experience. It is my experience that it can do so, and I encourage you to give it a try before you do the accupuncture.
Best wishes.
Numb fingers
Thanks for the advice guys, it seems that wuji and very slow forms work is sorting things out. Great to have experienced people confirming that I’m doing the right thing. Thanks and good luck.
