moving the horse

How do you move the horse? Do you step, drag, slide, or push?

What is your preference and why?

I find a light nudge in the ribs works wonders!

depends on the situation, like all of wing chun

there are no set techniques

each has its own advantage

Usually I like a short huen bo: a short circle with the lead leg.

It is usually a push across the floor, or a gliding step for speed. When you plant it you can get a well-levered lock on the opponent’s knee, and extra rooting for your strikes.

If my position doesn’t give me that much of a ‘lead’ leg, I move the whole structure by edging forward, creating a lead position, and dragging the ‘back’ foot. It’s well rooted, but very slow… I haven’t worked out the speed from that position yet. It’s also useless on some surfaces.

Oats?

Carrot or stick?

I may step, drag, push or slide in my horse.
The key for me while moving in my horse is being nontelegraphic.
Thats what works for me.
