Low Gar-Choy Lay Fut

Before I get blasted- iknow there was a thread on Low Gar not to long ago.

Anyway, My sifu is teaching us a Low Gar form lately. It is the stationary one where you do alot of palm strikes and Bui Gees, This is a very vague description but does anyone know the name of this. It starts off feet together-then you spread them out using the heels and toes to rotate on-to single palm strike- to block to grab and chun towards body. to bui gee strike. SOund familiar.

Also, how related is Low Gar and Choy Lay Fut? Ive been told they are very familiar.

TIA for the input.

Lau Ga and CLF

Hmmmm…well my main art is CLF but I did learn a Lau Gar set from the Lam Sai Wing branch of Hung Ga. I don’t see any real connection other than that they are both Southern Styles.

Fu-Pow

from what ive been told…

there are only 3 sets in the lau gar style… kuen long pole(?) and a palm set…i know kuen and it doesnt stay in one place

There are a few sets in Lau Ga.
Only Hung Ga contains a kuen set and pole set, with a so-called palm set (which are funny names)

In Guangdong Lau Ga the two basic sets are Siu Yun Tin and Dai Yun Tin.

In addition, none of them stay in the same place throughout!

I study Lau Gar in the UK. The form you describe sounds a bit like the basic “Jorn Sau” form that we learn. It is done stationary, very slowly and with the upper body in tension throughout until the last few moves.

The form involves double biu gees at the start and then palm strikes a bit like what you describe.

This is the second form that we learn and is primarily for building upper body strength.

I’d be interested to hear more about your form.

Phoenix eye,
I will confirm with my sifu tonight that the name of that form is “jorn sau” and get back to you with a more descriptive list.
Thanks you for the info.

Well, I got the info last night and I made a mistake. It is a chow gar form. It is the 3rd of of 3 stationary forms with palm strikes and and somo involved with it.

Phoenix eye, does this sound familiar?
