The family martial arts tradition of Kojo-Ryu, Okinawa uses twelve (12) postures arising from Chinese Martial Arts. These 12 postures symbolize selected characteristics of the the Chinese Zodiac and animals contained within.
The 12 postures are:
- Seishin Kamae (Nezumi - Rat)
- Fudou Kamae (Ushi - Ox)
- Jinpu Kamae (Tora - Tiger)
- Jumonji Kamae (Usagi - Rabbit)
- Unryuu Kamae (Tatsu - Dragon)
- Aiki Kamae (Hebi - Snake)
- Seigan Kamae (Uma - Horse)
- Dougan Kamae (Hitsuji - Ram/Sheep)
- Tenchi Kamae (Saru - Monkey)
- Fukioroshi Kamae also known as Tsuru Hou (Rooster & or Crane)
- Chi Seigan Kamae (Inu - Dog)
- Ichimonji Kamae (Inoshishi - Boar/Pig)
What other Chinese Martial arts traditions utilize these postures? Does a Chinese Martial Art exist that uses the same 12 postures?
Looking forward to your replies. ![]()
