Kojo-Ryu Fighting Postures & Chinese Martial Arts

The family martial arts tradition of Kojo-Ryu, Okinawa uses twelve (12) postures arising from Chinese Martial Arts. These 12 postures symbolize selected characteristics of the the Chinese Zodiac and animals contained within.

The 12 postures are:

  • Seishin Kamae (Nezumi - Rat)
  • Fudou Kamae (Ushi - Ox)
  • Jinpu Kamae (Tora - Tiger)
  • Jumonji Kamae (Usagi - Rabbit)
  • Unryuu Kamae (Tatsu - Dragon)
  • Aiki Kamae (Hebi - Snake)
  • Seigan Kamae (Uma - Horse)
  • Dougan Kamae (Hitsuji - Ram/Sheep)
  • Tenchi Kamae (Saru - Monkey)
  • Fukioroshi Kamae also known as Tsuru Hou (Rooster & or Crane)
  • Chi Seigan Kamae (Inu - Dog)
  • Ichimonji Kamae (Inoshishi - Boar/Pig)

What other Chinese Martial arts traditions utilize these postures? Does a Chinese Martial Art exist that uses the same 12 postures?

Looking forward to your replies.
