Judo throws from the NY Open

Hi guys. Hope everyone is training hard and remaining injury free.
A judo buddy sent me this location to check out a huge highlight reel of some judokas @ NY.

I thought I’d share it with the cma forum to show the similarities with sanshou (after the clinch).

Best wishes everyone.

(be warned this is a huge file. not for those of slow modems…)

Can’t get to it. Getting Access Denied

 computers hate me.

Cool!

Ford,
That happened to me too. I just waited a minute and tried again, and it worked.

Maximum 6 users. Try again later guys.

Anyway, i am ****ting my pants. I have been on loads of dates etc, but i am going on a date, and for the first time ever i have butterflies in my tummy, cos i am so into this girl.

Bye, wish me luck. :frowning:

Sharky,

I have no idea what you are talking about but if I had a daughter going on a date with a guy like you, I’d teach her judo…

That vid was great, but they need to lightn up on the jittery editing.

Thanks!

Ippon!

Great video thanks!
Some of those reversals were quite nasty. I like the stunned, incoherent look on the guys face in the last clip

I’ve never really been a big fan of Judo, but knowing Carlos Newton has been training Japanese Judo at the Judo HQ in Japan, and seeing him in pride against Pele doing what looked like a perfect Judo throw, i’m impressed, didnt think those throws would work in serious NHB but he sure as hell proved me wrong.

Video crashes my mac? oh well

I’m back :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway if i had a daughter, and she was gonna go out with someone like me… fu.ck it i’d get her a gun!

..or a mint :stuck_out_tongue:

Q- what made ya think Judo throws would not ‘work’ in a NHB fight?

because many of them seem to rely heavily on grabbing the Gi for the takedown, so people use wrestling takedowns more because in them there is no gi to grab.

ic

qeysus,

They work. The difference in the rules, however, creates an environment in wrestling that favors leg attacks. Also, the grip must be adjusted for no gi, and there are SOME Judo throws that are hard to pull off without the gi because they require a VERY big pull that is difficult to get without a handle.

Nice clips with excess amount of uchi matas.

The occasionally popping quaking effects along with the background music were also nice, but sometimes they were just annoying.

Ah. I finally got to see this in full.

I thought I recognized somebody on vid… so I looked and replayed and pause.

At 0:54 into the video, you see Rhadi Ferguson doing an enormous one handed throw. The black man on the left side of the mat wearing the green and white collared shirt is my BJJ instructor
