# Big-Budget Jason Statham-David Leitch Action-Comedy ‘Jason Statham Stole My Bike’ Arrives To Heat Up Berlin Market; Black Bear On Sales & Domestic With Leitch & Kelly McCormick Producing

EXCLUSIVE: Big-budget action-comedy Jason Statham Stole My Bike has been dropped into the European Film Market in Berlin and becomes the big-ticket new project on sale for commercially-oriented buyers.
Statham will star in the movie for Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train director Leitch, reuniting them after Universal’s box office hit Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Filming is being lined up for May 2026.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but we’re told it’ll see Statham “in the role of a lifetime, playing global action superstar Jason Statham“. We hear the budget is being set north of $80M — an increasingly rare proposition in the indie marketplace — and the project includes a number of major action set pieces. It’s being conceived as a PG-13 with tongue in cheek, per the movie’s meta title.
Script comes from Alison Flierl, whose credits include BoJack Horseman and the School Of Rock series.
Black Bear has committed to a wide domestic release and is handling international sales. CAA Media Finance arranged the financing on behalf of the filmmakers and represented the U.S. rights. Interest is already high in the project and we understand Amazon is circling rights in multiple territories.
Husband and wife duo Leitch and Kelly McCormick are producing for 87 North (The Fall Guy); Statham is producing for Punch Palace Productions; John Friedberg produces for Black Bear. Also producing are Meredith Berg and Ethan Erwin for Beryllium Entertainment.
Statham remains one of the market’s biggest draws thanks to action franchises such as The Meg, Fast & Furious, and The Beekeeper. He has also shown off comedy chops in Spy, Snatch, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.
Leitch has directed big-canvas pics like Deadpool 2, Bullet Train, and The Fall Guy, the latter a love-letter to the stunt community where he began his career. Expect more high-wire feats in this one. Leitch played a key role in lobbying to get the Academy to introduce the stunt design Oscar, which arrives in 2028.
Black Bear and Statham have been regular collaborators, most recently on Guy Ritchie pic Viva La Madness, which is currently filming in London.
The EFM market has seen a slew of horror projects but has had few big-canvas new arrivals featuring tried and tested studio level talent. Jason Statham Stole My Bike ticks that box. Laika animation Wildwood is one of the other projects in the market that can match its budget. Not that size is everything; but the biggest buyers will always want the option of buzzy projects of scale.
Leitch and McCormick are represented by CAA and Tara Kole of Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole. Statham is represented by Patrick Knapp of GGSSC. Hannah Waddingham Starring Opposite Jason Statham In David Leitch’s Action-Comedy ‘Jason Statham Stole My Bike’

EXCLUSIVE: We can reveal that Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) has been set to star opposite Jason Statham in David Leitch’s action-comedy Jason Statham Stole My Bike, which has been filming since June in the UK and Malta.
This is the first revealed casting for the film following our initial break about the Statham project back in February. It reunites the actress with director Leitch after they worked together on The Fall Guy.

Black Bear and Leitch’s 87North banner are behind the film and Black Bear is due to release in North America on August 6, 2027. Alison Flierl wrote the screenplay based on a story by Flierl and Scott Chernoff. Kelly McCormick and Leitch are producing the film alongside Statham for Punch Palace Productions, John Friedberg for Black Bear, and Meredith Berg and Ethan Erwin for Beryllium Entertainment. Fifth Season and Tango are executive-producing.
Waddingham earned an Emmy, an Actor Award, two Critics Choice Awards, and two Golden Globe nominations for her work on Apple TV’s Ted Lasso. She can currently be seen in Amazon Prime’s new series Ride or Die which she executive-produced alongside Octavia Spencer. The Brit actress has also earned three Olivier nominations for her work on London’s West End.
The film marks Black Bear’s latest collaboration with Statham after they recently wrapped production on Guy Ritchie’s Viva La Madness.

Black Bear’s latest collaboration with Jason Statham is being directed by David Leitch

Jason Statham‘s upcoming (and self-referential) action-comedy “Jason Statham Stole My Bike” has expanded its cast.
Eddie Peng, Daniel Ings and Artie Wilkison-Hunt have joined the feature, being directed by David Leitch and starring Statham and the recently-announced Hannah Waddingham. The film comes from from regular Statham collaborators Black Bear, alongside Leitch’s 87North, and was written by Alison Flierl, who created the story with Scott Chernoff.
While the plot of “Jason Statham Stole My Bike” is being kept under wraps, it’ll star Statham as a fictionalized version of himself, similar to Nicholas Cage in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” and Jean-Claude Van Damme in “JCVD.”
Kelly McCormick and Leitch are producing for 87North alongside Statham for Punch Palace Productions, John Friedberg for Black Bear, and Meredith Berg and Ethan Erwin for Beryllium Entertainment. Fifth Season and Tango are executive producing. Black Bear will release the film in North America on Aug 6, 2027.
One of the most recognizable names in Chinese-language cinema, Peng starred in such titles as Guan Hu’s “Black Dog,” which earned extensive acclaim, including the Cannes Un Certain Regard award in 2024. He has collaborated with Asian auteurs including Zhang Yimou, Ann Hui, Dante Lam and Jiang Wen. Peng starred alongside Matt Damon in “The Great Wall” and will produce and star in the upcoming Chinese-language adaptation of “The Night Manager.”
Meanwhile, Ings reunites with Waddingham following “The Woman in Cabin 10.” His extensive TV work includes HBO’s “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” Guy Ritchie’s Emmy-winning “The Gentlemen,” Netflix hit “Sex Education” and cult favorite “Lovesick,” and HBO’s BAFTA-winning “I Hate Suzie.” On the big screen, he has roles in Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars: Starfighter” and Susanna White’s “Prima Facie,” in which he stars opposite Cynthia Erivo. Upcoming series include “The Husbands” opposite Juno Temple for A24 and Apple TV, and “The Rachel Incident” for Channel 4 and Element Pictures.
Youngster Wilkinson-Hunt’s credits include Travis Knight’s “Masters of the Universe,” Gore Verbinski’s “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die” and the long-running HBO hit “C.B. Strike.” His role as Young Thomas in The National Theatre’s “The Land of the Living, “directed by Stephen Daldry, earned him a What’s on Stage Award and a Critics Circle Theatre Award nomination. His upcoming roles include D.J. Caruso’s “A Visit to Grandpa’s” and Peter Straughan’s “Berlin Noir.”
In addition to “Jason Statham Stole My Bike” and fellow Statham-starrer “Viva La Madness,” Black Bear’s upcoming release slate includes “The Rivals of Amziah King,” starring Matthew McConaughey, “Spa Weekend,” starring Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, Michelle Buteau and Anna Faris, Sundance breakout “Wicker,” starring Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgård and Peter Dinklage and Julia Cox’s “A Woman in the Sun,” starring Renée Zellweger and Sissy Spacek alongside Mia Threapleton.
