yes. In California acupuncturists are primary healthcare providers. The liscencing in the US is regulated by the states - in some states you need to pass a state regulated exam, in others you need the national exam, in others you must practice under the supervision of an MD, in others you need nothing.
Most MD’s who practice in the states are only required to take a 150-200 hour course on acupuncture. Some are responsible and take the 2000-3000 hours that acupuncturists are required to take, some don’t.
Definitely check into the training of any medical professional anywhere…
