Wow, that is quite a task and a lot to ask for. First off, there are many different versions of the form that are performed. Also, not every one has the book you mention. Lastly, what do you mean by chinese? There is Manderian and Cantonese among many others.

If you want to know the names, your probably better off buying the tiger and crane poster and checking them out.

[http://www.kungfulibrary.com](http://www.kungfulibrary.com) is currently translating Lam Sai Wing’ book for fuhok into english.

you can pre-order a copy there.

[http://hungga.net](http://hungga.net) also [http://www.siulam.info/](http://www.siulam.info/) has information regarding this set.

There are videotapes from several vendors for this set, there is the book you mentioned and there are more books still!

If you can get at it from all the angles, you should be able to learn the names of the movements in the set, although, it is just as important to just learn the set whether you know the names or not. You can always learn the names later.

The lam sai wing book has all the stuff laid out, in chinese, so if you can’t read chinese, have a friend who can to help you.

cheers

For anyone else that is interested and for 1/2 of my question although a different lineage another kind person posted this on another forums:

I’m sorry, but I don’t have the Bucksam Kong book. I do however have the list of translations from the common Lam Sai Wing Fu Hok Poster, which I’ll copy below and ave you a trip on the forum search engine.

I would also like to have the cantonese names (in Yale maybe?) for all of these movements. I know some of the most common ones, but have never viewed a complete list. Anyone care to share?

depending on which version of the form youve learned the lam sai wing poster might not apply..not knowing which system youve leaned the form from makes names difficult..i myself practice the form as taught in the tang fung branch of hung ga..from what ive seen in tournaments and meeting other hung people..there are definatley differant versions of the form which include differant techniques in sometimes differant orders..your best bet would be to bug your sifu(or maybe volunteer to help him)or your sigung about the names..they would probaley know best

5th Brother,

The LSW version should be pretty close to the Buck Sam Kong version. I have his gung Gee book and he follows the numbering exactly. I don’t have the Fu Hok book so can’t comment.

Here’s the book the poster was derived from:

You should be able to find it a chinatown book store if there is one near by.

ironbridge#9,

You are correct that the Tang Fung line has a slightly different choreograhpy then Lam Sai Wing. That said, many of the movements parallel.

Which Tang Fung line are you with? New Jersey would point to Yee’s Hung Ga but not necessarily.

speaking of ha say fu…

hasayfu - sorry, this if slightly off topic, but did you happen to catch Brother O’s appearance in the Mar/April issue of KFQG magazine (p 68)?

to answer your question i do train under one of frank yees disciples…and your also right many moves are the same but i have to say that if your trying to match up names to movement..especially without pictures its differant enough that youd end up matching up the wrong names to the wrong techniques..unless your well versed in the system of course then you mighyt be able to figure it out..not saying its impossible..just that it would be difficult..and its not just the tang fung branch that practices the form differantley..ive seen at least 5 differant versions of fu hok..not all totaley differant..but differant enough that trying to match names to techniques using the lam sai wing books would be difficult..anyway..gooday to all and good luck to those trying to learn the names of the techniques…it really does add to your knowledge..it without a doubt helps to give a better understanding of the techniques..

herb ox. I think you have the right HaSayFu. I did see si-hing in the mag.

Ironbridge#9, I agree that trying to match names to moves without pictures is near impossible. And though I know what you mean that different folks have different fu-hok, with the pictures you can get pretty close. That’s why I pointed to the book. Now I won’t go into different names of different lines which also exist.

Curious, are you saying that the version you have can not be mapped? I think all versions have additional moves not pictured or mentioned in the book, but I think all moves in the book are represented by all lines. Is that not true for you? (again, I know the Tang Fung folks do some things in Yee Gee ma but the techniques should all be there)

🙂

Thanks for the help and information all..

yes i noticed the lam sai wing form (from poster) has a few movements before the “start” of that of bucksam kong`s betwee the salute and single arm moves…

besides my question i would like to open this thread up to a general “fu hok seung ying kuen” discussion on any area of it.

are there any sites which have pictures / clips of the form especially different lineages would be interesting to see…

thanks

5thBro

Check out [http://www.fuhok.com](http://www.fuhok.com)

There are links to videos there and I believe they have a couple of examples of the Tiger/Crane set.

Also, [Hungga.net](http://Hungga.net) has clips, pics and so on about this set.

They also have information on a few of the various lineages of Hung.

the links I posted before at the top of the thread are pretty good to.

cheers

gene ching

your hung gar lineage become from chui kao and lam jo .
can you explain to us if the forms in the wing lam school video program belong to chui kao or lam jo line ?
or the forms have the best of both lineages ?

not gene but …

I am not Gene but I am his Si-dai.

Lam Sifu’s Hung Gar comes from three people, Chiu Wai, Lum Jo and Leung Wah Chew. The forms on video cover all three but the flavor is strictly Sifu’s.

Leung Wah Chew is exclusively Ha Say Fu Hung Gar and are noted in the catalog. The other sets are usually shared by Lum Jo and Chiu Wai. The exceptions I can think of, Butterfly Palm (Chiu only) and Arrowhand (Lum only).

Having visited and trained with both Chiu Wai Si-gung and Lum Jo Si-gung I can say that they each have their flavor and Sifu doesn’t copy either. He is a combination of the two plus his own influence and understanding.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Hasayfu

I actually only dabbled in Hung Gar - my focus with Wing Lam was on Bak Sil Lum. Hasayfu would be much better qualified to answer your questions on this matter, since he is far more focused than I am with that school.

It’s also worthy of note that in the Chui family there is the Father Chui Kao and his elder son Chui Wai and his younger son Chui Chi Ling.

While in Lam Jo’s family there is his son Lam Chun Fai and many other extended members such as Wing Lam and Buck Sam Kong et al.

The Chui family and the Lam family propogate the Lam sai Wing Hung Gar and yet have expanded and grown the system with each generation.

The differences in the pillar sets between these two families is from what I have seen through student demonstration, photos, publication s and videos very subtle.

But when you get into some of the other lineages, the differences in sequence are a bit broader.

There doesn’t seem to be any ommisions though, because some techniques will be found in other sets.

anyway, it’s all a rich tapestry 😃

do the fu!

cheers
