Last night during Wing Chun class my heart did a weird thing. We were doing a stepping drill around vertical sticks. I had just gone through and was walking back to get in line again when all of a sudden my heart started beating almost twice as fast. It went from thump…thump…thump to thumpthumpthump instantly. I felt a little lightheaded too. I took my pulse and was doing about 195 beats/minute. It didn’t slow down until after class when I laid down on the floor and elevated my feet for about 5 minutes. We were doing some two-man drills before the stepping drill, which were more strenuous. I’ve had this happen before once in a while, usually after I’ve been doing something strenuous and then stopped.
A few weeks ago, I had chest pain after class and I couldn’t take a deep breath because my chest felt tight. It lasted the whole next day too. I went to my doctor and had blood tests to check for anemia, high cholesterol, etc. All were negative. Had a resting EKG (electrocardiogram) and an EKG during exercise and the doctor said they were all normal. Does anybody know what is wrong with me? Or has anybody else had this happen to them? I am a male, 28, 200lbs., non-smoker, have normal blood pressure (127/76), and have been training Wing Chun regularly for over a year. I am in the best physical shape of my adult life. Help

I just recently replied to a post similar to this in the Chinese medicine section of this forum. Again, I will add from my post there that my wife and a good friend of mine have had the same or similar happenings you are going through. For example my wife has had the exact same problems you mentioned, though they would happen while just sitting there while watching TV. By the way she is only 29 years old and this has been happening for many years now. Every time she went to the doctor or the emergency room they told her she was fine and even a few times told her it was all in her head. This was very disturbing since my wife isn’t one to allow things to hold her down or one to complain when sick. After several disappointing trips to the hospital as well as several test I finally took her to Dr Chow. He gave her some herbs and some very simple diet suggestions and for the first time in many years the problems she was having completely stopped.
I don’t want to push my personal beliefs on anyone, since there are those who believe in TCM and those who don’t. But if you would like some more info let me know.
I read the post you were talking about in the TCM forum. I would be very appreciative for any information you might have that could help me with this problem. You can email me at jburke@stormloader.com
Thanks again!
