G r i p M a s t e r

I’ve just had a GripMaster Black for Xmas. Whilst I do like it, and it’s improving my hand strength, I’ve heard rumours of carpel tunnel syndrome and tendonitis appearing through its use. Anyone know about this?

PLUS- Any guitarists on the board? Will its use hamper the development of quicker fingers? Or will it improve my speed? (as I’ve been told)

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I´m not sure about this because I have never used a g r i p m a s t e r,but I´m quite sure that what you should not do is OVERDO.you should not stress the same muscles/joints too much.
Train.Wait 48 h.Train again (with the same muscles)
When your hands begin to feel sore, stop immediately, take good breaks.

Seems logical I suppose. As the finger joints are fragile etc.

Anyone know about this CTS/tendonitis scare?
Or the speed thing?

Would be much appreciated.

common problem with climbers, plenty of rests in between the trainings.

Hey, I use Captains of Crush grippers. If you want mad finger strength, do more heavy singles than high reps. I don’t know how gripmaster works, but if you can adjust the tension, 1 or 2 reps at a very high level would build more raw strength than many reps at a lower level. It also reduces the risk of repetitive-motion injury (or whatever that class is called), like carpal tunnel syndrome and stuff.

Grip strength rules. You can also do one armed pullups, or just hanging by one hand.

I have a GripMaster Black - the strongest of three levels, so I agree with the low reps thing.

Howeverm I think carpel tunnel syndrome is different to RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury). I Think it has something to do with the joint ligaments. Anyone here to prove me wrong? - I’m a little confused

I agree with the grip strength thing. It’s also great for opening beer bottles with just your hands

I do 100 fast ones and on 100, I press it in and keep it pressed for 1-2 min (depending on how tired I am at the moment) Its a good tool.

I do 3 sets of 80 to 90 about 4 days a week.

Yeah it is a good tool.

80 to 90 reps? Geez. I hope you don’t do 80-90 reps of crunches, too

Is there a website that shows what a gripmaster is? Now I’m curious!

Iron

I do 60-120 reps of crunches but I’ve still got a belly :frowning:

my personal opinion is that 90 reps is too much ( then again, I am dum ). It is like the sieve of the tendons that run through the base of your palms that is squeezing your tendons and hence causing the pain (actually closer to the wristst but you know what I mean). You just need to rest them. Less reps, like 2-5 for finger power ?!?

And loads of stretching, like 3 times a day

You know crunches do nothing to reduce a belly, right? See the training forum

Any good?

Yeah go grip masters they kick,I would highly recommend them, but do buy a T size to start off with or at least warm up with it,if it is too easy ,Iron I can almost close a no.2.Also found slow release for 8 -10 secs. helpfull with strength development

Hmm

Still no news on carpal tunnel syndrome?!

Good

Cheers guohuen!

guohen, which do you use or did you start out with: light, medium or heavy?

Like everything else moderation is the key. Don’t overdo and you shouldn’t have any problems.
