Forms=Sweating

Do you KF practitioners sweat alot when you are doing your forms. I sweat alot and am wondering why when you see these wushu guys , they dont seem to sweat all that much when they’re doing their forms. Most of their forms are more physically demanding. I know breathing correctly is involved, and I adhere to that- maybe I drink too much water.

What do you all think?

AOF

i definitely have a problem with sweating similar to yours! i sweat like crazy. whether i’m doing forms or just the basic line drills in the beginning of class i sweat a lot. it’s so annoying too! it seems as if i sweat more than the average person, but i always give it my all when i’m training, maybe it’s just that some others aren’t trying as hard? and what about the advanced people? they try as hard as they can always and i don’t see them sweating 1/8 of what i’m sweating lol. i’d definitely love to hear any information on sweat, because although sweating lowers your body temp and is good for you, when it’s pouring down your face, compared to everyone else, it’s kinda embarassing :\

Maybe it just depends on how some people do their forms? If you walk through it or go gangbusters putting maximum effort into the moves that require it, you might perspire differently.

Anyway, I sweat a lot too when I do my kata. If I were you I wouldn’t be too concerned about it. (Just don’t tell Celestial Amibioshi:D )

I dont sweat during my forms.

But I only have 2.

Tai Chi guys talk about sweating alot. 4 hours of slow form might do that tho.

Im the same even just doing one form with a lot of energy can leave me pritty damp. I wouldnt advise you to drink less because you dont want to get dehydrated during training. I usually just open a window.

Get a prescription antiperspirant called Dry Sol. Excellent for stopping excessive armpit sweating.

Note: The OTC version, CertainDri (or something like that), did absolutely nothing for me, but I know a few people who say it works. Dry Sol on the other hand is awesome

I sweat buckets as well. Always have. I used to soak the pits of all my shirts. I took the challange of High Endurance (Pure Sport) from old spice. I must say that is a very effective product. And no I don’t work for old spice.

for me it’s not all in the pits (lol, sounds funny), but it’s mostly all over my head. i have to constantly wipe the drops of sweat on my nose or the sweat streaming down around my temples or eyes. is there anything else besides deodorant that can stop excessive sweating? maybe like some type of natural pill or something? :\

Not sure. I sweat a lot myself. I always thought it was kind of cool 'cause it makes it look like you are working harder then everyone else

Man… I found one of my old undershirts I used to wear when I did Stone Warrior. Dude, the armpits were dark ass yellow, almost brown. That shít makes you sweat, and I used to practice it in my cold basement.

Gross.

As for deodorants, for me the best has been Degree. Even Mitchum (the self proclaimed “So effective you could skip a day” brand didn’t work as well). But then again, since I’ve stopped eating like a bodybuilder I haven’t been sweating nearly as much, anyway

It depends on how you do your forms and style of kung fu. I train SPM Chow gar, what I have found is as your power changes from a physical brute strength to internal you sweat less, not sure about the tai chi sweating I never sweat when going through my Tai Chi form. I remember reading a quote by Chen man ching saying if you sweat during tai chi forms you are doing it wrong.

yay

Since sweating is your bodies defense from over heating … maybe your “endurance” isn’t too high and I don’t mean the kind of endurance that lets you work out for a while but the kind that makes it feel like your not working at all … wait isn’t that stamina, you know the ability to something over and over and it never seems like effort. If you do the same forms over and over for years … they become fairly effortless

There might be some evidence that life time pactioners of MA have a lower metabiosim then your average person

Maybe that’s why so many instructors are fat asses

LOL! good point Ironfist.

Sweating is good for you, it helps get toxins of out your body and take the pressure off the internal organs to function during you workout. If your sweat has a bad smell or leaves colored stains in your clothing there may be something within your body that is slightly toxic. I would check your diet. Also your hair in your armpits may be festering bacteria and need to be shaved.

Just out of curiosity, why are you all using deodorants? Do all of your sweat stink that bad that is overly offensive?

To release moisture from the body anxiously, is a typical healthy response to Kung Fu training. I once had the oppurtunity to ask an Ancient, how can you do and live this long? His response, I sweat everyday!

Deodorant is a preventative thing. If you’re wearing deodorant, it will prevent you from stinking should the situation arrise.

I saw something on TV about excessive sweating and excessive blushing (going red in embarassment) being linked.

There is a simple operation which can be carried out which prevents the problem. They cut through some sort of nerve or something (I think that’s the correct medical terminology) which prevents the body triggering the reaction.

So there you go - stink, wear anti-perspirant or undergo surgery - the choice is yours.

PS - Hasn’t anti-perspirant got aluminium in it which is linked to alzheimers ?

don’t sweat it!

Seriously! Don’t worry about it!

It’s not because you’re drinking too much water… that water is vital so that you CAN sweat, without overheating your internal organs.

Keep drinking, and drink in sips, not gulps. This reduces the air intake with your water, so speeding up absorption through the digestive tract.

However, you should aim to keep as cool as possible and wear as little as poss (providing it doesn’t lead to an excess of blushing  . Remember the Olympians!) because as long as you have warmed up enough to relax your muscles, they work better if you are cooler. This is because the blood flows more freely to your muscles (providing more oxygen where it is needed), instead of to your skin and your internal organs (for cooling purposes).

The bonuses to sweating also include:

  1. Nobody can grab you, and your punches just slide on past those blocks!

  2. Body odour is the best form of defence!

Natural is always best. If you tend to sweat a lot, there is a reason for it. Most proper way to prevent excessive sweating is simply to drink less. Taking medicines or messing with nerves is not the right way.

Don’t drink less :frowning: ! It’s a hell of a lot worse for your body to dehydrate than to look a bit wet!
