Focus Gloves/Mitts

Can any of you give me a few drills I can do with focus gloves?

What is your goal? There are millions of drills. What are you looking to work on?

drills

I want to achieve speed, accuracy, execution and power. What kind of suggestions do u have?

Of what? Kicks? Punches? What kicks and punches do you do? We need specifics in order to come up with drills.

from my experience.

In a nutshell: punches are numbered

  1. jab
  2. cross/straight
  3. hook
  4. uppercut
  5. overhand
  6. spinning backfist

have your partner call out combinations (the famous 1-2 jab cross) now mix it up!! He should be angling the mitts toward the ground for your #4 and also pushing towards your gloves right before the impact to absorb some of the shock on his elbows. also jab at any mitt but when you cross/straight always punch his (trainers)right hand. (if you are in a traditional stance it is on your left) If he is in a fighting stance that hand will be back a little further and it is a more accurrate headshot for training purposes. simulating slipping past your opponents hands. sometimes I jab his left pad sometimes the right mitt and then follow the same mitt with the cross.

1-2
1-2-3
1-4-3-2 My personal fav. it’ll knock lots of people on their ass!
1-1-2
1-5
1-3-6
2-3-5

you get the idea… mix it up and keep building longer combinations!! … use the same thoery with your kicks on the thai pads or air shield.

That’s dope as fvck. As much as i want wing chun lessons, i want boxing lessons :frowning:

heh, gotta get a left hook first though

In addition to ST’s post, after you get the hang of the drill, have you partner throw strikes at you in between combinations in order to get you used to bobbing and weaving. Also have them do bodyhooks so that you can defend shots to the body. In MT, we had another option - the bodyhook we used it instead of the spinning backfist. we did use the SB, but didn’t have a major focus on it. We would also work in a rear hand hook, and use combos like 1-2-3-6-3 jab/cross/hook/rear hook/hook

7 star.

you’re 100% correct. The post requesting info was pretty basic and I didn’t have a whole lot of time to get technical.

I LOVE BODY HOOKS ! few punches are as demoralizing as a good punch in the breadbasket (gut) these are a sanhsou standard as well. esp. work these guys on the heavy bag and you’ll be cracking ribs in no time…

also as 7* mentioned having the trainer throwing hooks and ducking/slipping/bob/weave are just as important as good punching.

Sharky, right on! isn’t there any sanshou in the U.K. ?

I just started learning muay thai. Still perfecting my jab :stuck_out_tongue:

Boxing/kickboxing/etc are awesome!

A combination I came up with that is meant to pretty much destroy is: (opponent comming in with right cross)sidestep to the left and jab the inner forearm and then cross to the bicep. This leaves you in the right possition to throw a left cross to the face.

I’m trying to picture this - if you sidestep outside his right cross to your left, how do you left jab his right inner forearm then? And then right cross to his right bicep? I’m missing something here, obviously…
