fighting fundamentals

my brother alex is 12. im trying to teach him a few basics of fighting - im gonna get him started at a boxing club or something soon, until he can go to kung fu with me (they dont allow ppl in his age - he’s 11). but until this, i was thinking i could just give him a few basic pointers which he could practice with on my punching bag.

so far, ive shown him the difference between kicking and punching ranges, the use of a jab, how to defend against kicks (to simply retreat, then move back in) and a few other things. i need help though, can people tell me where to go next? should he have his hands in front of his face, or slightly down? defence against roundpunches is easy to teach - just strike out at them. im not too sure about jabs or crosses.

theres always the option of teaching him the hand positions i learn… although this may save time in the long run, im well aware that i would make, at best, a ****-poor teacher and probably get everything wrong. thats why i was thinking a boxing guard might be easier.

anyway, please advise me on any part of this, including a good fighting style for kids his age.

Ged.

May I suggest stretching, basic donditioning and low level stuff.
Basic stances, footwork and punches.

Good fighting style, tough, I would say it depends on his personality and eagernes to learn certain aspects.
