Favorite submission holds

For those who train in grappling. For those who don’t please explain why you don’t? No disrespect just curious. Mine would either be the triangle choke or an inside heelhook.

cos there isn’t a school near me and if there was i wouldn’t be able to afford it.

Juje-Gatami or Americana…

have had a lot of success with ude garami, both sparring and in self-defense.

J/J I don’t gapple ( other than that previous statement ) Because…

heel hooks…

I just “flow wid de go.”

Hair pulling, works everytime.

One day i put my brother on a standing kimura.

I lucked out two weeks ago - one of my training partners got me on gthe ground - he is way more knowledgeable there - but I applied a BIG TOE LOCK!!!

Man am I a lucky b@stard!

I like gi chokes. I’ve invented my own gi choke.

Kimura or guillotine. (if he’s in your guard)

If one doesn’t work, immediately transfer to the other !!

Now that I’m a weekend grappler, I work these as much as I can. I once switched from the Kimura to the G and then back to the K to get the tap !!! I rule!!!

Shaolin Tiger. Just think. If it wasn’t for the fact that i fought you at the park then you never would have realized the effectivness of BJJ and never would have started training in BJJ.

What BJJ school do you go to? Do they know that you fought me? Am i well known throughout the BJJ community?

Do we have to be able to pull off the submission?

I like the Triangle choke, but I can’t do it on anyone (unless they just give it to me). But the two that I have the most success with (against non grapplers mind you) are the armbar from the guard (for some reason I get too eager going for the armbar from the mount, or side mount), and the gullotine (either from the guard, or if they try a tackle, or sloppy takedown.

I’ve been doing really good with the ankle lock lately, since I’ve been going for more single leg takedowns.

The one I really want to get good at is the kneebar. I’ve got a friend that’s a killer with it, and he’s always showing us some strange position that he can pull off a kneebar from.

I don’t know any official names, but I would consider that I do “grapple” at times, just that I do not go to the floor purposely, in fact avoid such as the plague and go only if that is the way momentum seems to be taking me.

What I do, when tangled, read for which way they are forcing, take it off that line into another line, step into the person with my weight and momentum and try to break something or hit.

At that point I don’t consider it grappling, I consider it shield to shield type fighting, where it has more to do with reading weight and momentum.

I think no system is complete without such close quarter abilities. I use chokes as well, but, really, if it came to it, if you can choke, you can snap.

Shin Lock

Ralek, the odds of you creating something that hasnt been around for the last couple hundred years is pretty small.

Did you ever see anyone execute a flying gi choke before? Didn’t think so. I invented it.

I am much more of a striker when on the ground but for submissions I would say I really like chokes.

Rear naked, sliding collar, guillotine, japenese strangle, but I also like neck cranks, hammerlocks, armpit arm locks, and some of the Naban stuff like the jaw lock.
