Anyone know where i can find some info on using the fan as a weapon???
Just take the cage guard off & get a long extension cord.

I’ve learned some fan, but its not really the weapon for me. In what I learned, the techniques for using the fan when its closed are basically the same as using a short stick, although more use is made of pokes, as a lot of fans have sharpened ends.
The techniques with the fan open often involve using the fan to block the opponent’s field of vision, however, theres one technique that looks kind of like ‘snake creeps…’ that involves catching an opponent in the shin with the pointed tines of the fan when they are kicking.
Usually with fan, there are also some ‘show moves’ in the form that are not meant for application, but that might not be true in some systems(choy li fut fan looks mostly martial to me, for example).
Its also my understanding that double fan is a lot more demonstration and art based, and less martial, but I have not practiced double fan, so I do not know this for sure.

As for the opening of the fan…
The fighting fan was made out of sharp metal with fabric (silk). The look was innocuous but it was carried into places where weapons were not allowed.
Opening the fan or displaying it while open can include wiping and slashing movements…the spines are supposed to be sharp and pointy - just fine for face and eye slashes.
The Opening of the fan can be to occlude the opponents vision of your body…and as a block to a lesser degree.
However, one tricky method involves allowing a blade to pierce between the spines into the fabric…then closing the fan with one or both hands to trap and hopefully break the blade…
In theory that is…I don’t know if I would bet my life on it…but then again, if I were betting my life…I doubt my first choice for a weapon would be a fan anyway.
