Again i wanna say greetings to everyone. I’m just a little confused about Sanchin, is it the same thing as San Ti? I’ve also heard it in styles ranging from Xingyiquan to Southern Praying Mantis to Goju Ryu, and a whole bunch more i cant even remember. Could i be mistaken? Also i’ve heard it builds chi, but does it have the same effect in all of the styles that have it, or did they modify it. I know its alot of questions. But thanx for your replies. You can tell how confused about this I am.
Never heard Hsing Yi had it, I think the San Ti you are refering to is a holding posture. I have heard that most styles that were practiced in Fukien have San Chein in them. It could be that no matter what style you practiced for the most part you knew san chein if you lived in Fukein. I have also heard it was widly practiced in Canton. Heres a list off the topp of my head there is probally alot more styles
Fukein White crane
Wu Chu Chuan
Tai Tzu Keun
Alot of Okinawa karate styles
and I have heard some Hung Gar branches practice it but I think they are reffering to the iron wire and that isn’t that much like San Chein other than the dynamic tension.
Hsing-I have San Ti Shi, it is a stance used for both developing Chi and for fighting.

You brake my elbow i put your face in s.hit! HA HA HA, how about that, HA HA!

Sanchin Kata is called saam jien kuen in Cantonese systems, mostly Fukien White Crane variations, and systems stemming from Ngor Mei P’ai. Some village Hung Kuen systems have it,there was alot of blending of styles, such as wanderer’s style. The okinawan versions that practice it all came from Fukien White Crane as well, such as Goju-Ryu, Uechi-Ryu (Pangainoon)
Kyokushin Karate has sanchin kata
I don’t get mad.
I get stabby.
firstly lemme explain san ti shi and sanchin are 2 different things.
san ti shi is a posture you hold to develop internal energy , only hsing yi has it. Other styles have their equivalents, one of the best know is the tai ji embracing the tree or 3 circle stance. another example is the hung gar, single finger points to heaven stance.
Sanchin kata as such is found in various karate styles, i know for example goju ryu has sanchin kata, someone else said kyokushinkai has sanchin, i am not sure about which other style but, for example wado ryu has their own version of san chin.
in chinese the form is called sam chien i believe and it means 3 battles , it exists in wuzu chuan . As samchien.
The use of sanchin kata is to move the energy around the body and to spread it throughout the body to develop an iron shield around your body, this is done by dynamic tension which jams the enrgy in the layers of skin…
however this should only be practised by students with a higher grading / who know what they are doing / and who have a good teacher.
for various reasons along the lines of doing it wrongly and it could be detrimental to health.
however many stleshave their own version of an iron body form , it isnt sanchin but its as good as, you know its like saying its not a ferrari it a porsche or viper or a lambo.
A good example is hung gar has iron wire form tit sin kuen.
