Close to where I train in England there is a school specialising in “Pressure Point Knock Outs” the man running it is somehow linked to Rich Mooney and Rick Moneymaker who i believe are American.
I think the organisation/association is “Dragon Society”. Has anyone any experience of this sort of pressure point striking and how effective it is and whether or not it works within the fighting style of Wing Chun.
Steer clear of anything connected to Mooney and Moneymaker. It’s simply the most absurd BS i’ve seen to date. Lot of “mystical hocus pokus chi power” crap. There’s a vid clip on Mooney’s website that shows him, intheory, knocking a guy down without touching him using his chi. 1) I could make a video just exactly like that AND I HAVE NO MAGIC POWERS. 2) if it doesn’t involve actual physical contact, it’s not wing chun, so it wouldn’t help with that anyway. Let me dig around and find that link, you can make up your own mind.
The pressure point knock out seminar circuit (circus) is now taking off very well in the UK.
In the letters pages of Martial Arts Illustrated, on and off from 1999 to late 2000 I suggested that these people and others submit themselves to to controlled laboratory testing maybe even claim the 1.1 million dollar prize on offer from the magician James Rhandi - check out the CSICOP web site and the Chicago Ki Society (Sceptics page).
There were no takers other than attempts at mocking put downs from gulible types who have little or no understanding of ‘suggestion’ based methods. I published in detail on this in My book Hop-Gar Mantis Kung-Fu, and have published scientific papers on the use of hyperventilation, trance states and suggestion in the martial arts.
I come from a long TCMA background and use pressure point strikes myself, howver, I am also trained in clinical hypnosis, scientific western anatomy and physiology and am a published respiratory psychophysiologist - which led to my bio being published in Who’s Who in America: World, Science and Medicine editions.
Sadly, huge amounts of martial artists simply don’t want to hear any of this, they’d rather listen to Dilman claiming that women get ‘morning sickness’ when pregnant beacuse of the flow of Chi along certain non-physical ‘energy’ meridians in the morning. No account whatsoever is taken of genetics, hormonal regulation and the well known fact that ‘morning sickness’ can occur at any time of the day. These people should get themselves a scientific training in circadian and ultradian regulatory systems and leave the primitive pre-scientific, pre-industrial thinking alone.
Perhaps you do a should search the KFO main forum for Rich Mooney the posts he has made should clue you in as to the reality of his “art”. I think too many people want to be Jedi’s or something and this type of thing just feeds that power fantasy.
I have learned silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet, strange, I am ungrateful to these teachers.
