Major bummer

Never mind not permitting fake weapons in their buildings. It’s the real ones.

> [AMC Banning Moviegoers In Costume As Security Beefs Up Nationwide](http://www.deadline.com/2012/07/colorado-shooting-batman-theaters-police-security/)

AMC Security Shooting Dark Knight RisesAMC Theatres said it is reinforcing its security procedures in the wake of today’s shooting in Colorado during a midnight screening of Warner Bros‘ The Dark Knight Rises. The company will not allow any guests into theaters “in costumes that make other guests feel uncomfortable and we will not permit face-covering masks or fake weapons inside our buildings”. Said the chain: “We’re reinforcing our security procedures with our theatre teams, which we cannot discuss in detail for obvious, safety reasons. Local law enforcement agencies, our landlords and their and our local security teams are stepping up nationwide to ensure we provide the safest environment possible for our guests. We couldn’t be more grateful for their collective support”. AMC said it is not amending any of the circuit’s screening schedules for The Dark Knight Rises but it will exchange or refund tickets for the movie.

Expect to see a lot of blue shirts out tonight at theaters showing The Dark Knight Rises. Police and theater chains nationwide are tightening security in the aftermath of the shooting. “We will be beefing up patrols units in areas around movie theaters and we will have undercover officers out there too,” an LAPD spokesperson told Deadline today. Officers in the Hollywood Division of the LAPD will be checking theaters’ perimeters and emergency exits as well as being stationed in the front of some cinemas. The Colorado gunman came in through an emergency exit at the theater in Aurora. “We intend to be a visible presence,” one officer said to Deadline.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly earlier told [NBCNewYork.com](http://NBCNewYork.com) that the NYPD will provide coverage at theaters where The Dark Knight Rises is playing in the five boroughs “as a precaution against copycats and to raise the comfort levels among movie patrons in the wake of the horrendous shooting in Colorado”. Nassau County police said they would have “intensive” additional patrols around movie theaters showing Dark Knight Rises, according to [NBCNewYork.com](http://NBCNewYork.com). Emergency service units, K-9 teams and special operations units will join the patrols. The daytime manager at United Artists/Regal Cinema in Brooklyn told NBC 4 New York that the NYPD has been in contact with her and planned patrols in the area.

Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department Officer Araz Alali told Deadline, “We will ensure that our officers are paying close attention to the theaters throughout the weekend”. Alali would not discuss tactical procedures or specific security plans. At the Regal Gallery Place multiplex in downtown Washington, employees searched patrons’ bags and purses while taking tickets at an 11 AM showing of Dark Knight Rises. Moviegoers seemed unfazed. ”I’m believing that it’s not related so much to the movie,” Steve Glaude, a 57-year-old federal employee, told The Associated Press. “The movie may have been a trigger. It may not have been. We don’t know. I don’t think it was hero or villain emulation.”

The Chicago Police Department said in a statement to Deadline that it “extends its sincere condolences and prayers to the victims and families of the tragic incident in Colorado. We are in contact with our law enforcement partners investigating this incident. We will remain vigilant in our enforcement efforts and give special attention to movie theaters throughout the City”.

One manager at the Regal Kendall Village Stadium 16 and RPX in Miami told [NBCMiami.com](http://NBCMiami.com) that the theater would have police officers patrolling the lobby starting at 7 PM for additional security. The manager, who did not give her name, did not comment further and referred comment to Regal Entertainment.

While they would not provide any “operational details” about increased security, Houston Police say they are working with theater owners in the area. Some employees at a Houston movie theater said security is normally beefed up for big premieres because of the larger crowds expected, according to [click2houston.com](http://click2houston.com). They said there is a police and security presence 24 hours a day.

Executives of St. Louis-based Wehrenberg Theatres had discussions before dawn with managers of its 15 cinemas in Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota and Iowa, spokeswoman Kelly Hoskins told The Asssociated Press. She said the company feels comfortable with security already in place and plans no changes. She told the AP she hopes other theater chains don’t panic and cancel showings.

This reminds me of the 9/11 tragedy

Jackie claimed a near-miss on that one too. Then again, it’s Chinese press, which is notorious for such shenanigans.

Sometimes when something tragic happens in the United States, Chinese media (including Taiwan and Hong Kong) will jump at the chance to somehow relate it to something happening in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Despite the gravity and the horror of what happened last Friday in Colorado, the Chinese media have done it again, this time linking Chinese movie star Jackie Chan to the tragedy.

According to Hong Kong’s Oriental Daily, Jackie Chan has going the rounds talking about how he escaped a near death experience in Aurora. Oriental Daily reports that Chan was allegedly invited to for the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado but work obligations got in the way and he had to return to Beijing.
Taiwan’s China Times reported that while Chan expressed grief and shock over the incident he seemed to be more worried about how the upgraded security will affect the premiere of his own upcoming movie Chinese Zodiac .

Now if any of this is to be believed, it would make Jackie Chan a really big loser for trying to gain exposure of his live-action Jackie Chan Adventures movie, however please keep in mind that Jackie Chan isn’t exactly the well loved action hero he seems to be.

> [Christian Bale Visits Aurora, Colo., Shooting Victims](http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/entertainment/2012/07/christian-bale-visits-aurora-colo-shooting-victims/)

Christian Bale, who plays the hero, Batman, in “The Dark Knight Rises,” today visited victims of a massacre that occurred early Friday at a screening of the film, allegedly by a man who fashioned himself as Batman’s comic book arch-enemy, the Joker.

Bale spent about two-and-a-half hours at the Medical Center of Aurora, Bill Voloch, the interim president of the facility, told the Denver Post, adding that he met with five people being treated there and two others brought in from another hospital.

“It was good for the patients,” Voloch told the Post. “We hope it was therapeutic for them, and all the staff really appreciated him coming.”

Petitions asking the actor to visit Aurora were posted on [Change.org](http://Change.org) following Friday’s shooting.

Over the weekend, Bale released a statement regarding the massacre, saying “Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”

Christopher Nolan, who directed Bale in the latest Batman trilogy, released a statement Friday expressing his “profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy” that happened in Aurora.

Anne Hathaway, who stars alongside Bale in “The Dark Knight Rises,” echoed their sentiments, saying, “My heart aches and breaks for the lives taken and altered by this unfathomably senseless act.”

> THE OPENING of a new martial arts school in Bexhill promises to be the cat’s whiskers as internationally acclaimed stunt woman Maxine Whittaker will kick off the event on Tuesday.

The Martial Arts Centre - Bexhill, located at Bexhill High School, Gunter’s Lane, will teach the traditional Korean art of Kuk Sool Won - recently featured on ITV’s Let’s Get Gold programme. It will be run under the guidance of chief instructor Robin Holmes, fourth degree black belt.

The new club will be opened on September 4 by Robin’s long-term training partner and third degree black belt, and Hollywood stuntwoman, Maxine Whittaker.

Ms Whittaker has a number of big movie titles to her name including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One and Two and Clash of the Titans, along with her latest role in Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, as Catwoman’s stunt double. Maxine was also personal trainer to Ann Hathaway (who plays Catwoman in the movie).

Robin and Maxine achieved their first degree black belts together in 2000, second degrees in 2003 and third degrees in 2006.

Robin went on to achieve his fourth degree in 2010. Maxine had to choose between her love for Kuk Sool and her professional work.

On this occasion, Hollywood won.

Robin said Kuk Sool Won is a very comprehensive martial arts system. “As well as offering a superb physical fitness programme, and includes all the usual hand and kick strikes, throwing and falling techniques, forms and sparring, as well as a systematic study of the oriental pressure point system.

“It also has a vast array of weapons techniques, which include long and short sword, long and short staff, spear, cane and fan to name a few!”

Robin has a number of distinctions to his name winning at least one gold medal at every Kuk Sool Won tournament he has entered, from white belt through to black belt. At the black belt level, he became the overall UK and European first and second degree Grand Champion, before retiring from competition. Robin also won gold medals at the Kuk Sool World Championships both in the USA in 1996/2001 and in South Korea in 2002.

Whilst living, training and teaching in South Korea, Robin took part in several public displays and featured on South Korean TV.

Bexhill’s new martial arts school will run junior and adult beginner’s classes.

Throughout September it is offering free introductory lessons, along with a free suit to the first 30 students joining the class.

Anyone joining on the first evening will also get a 50 per cent discount membership discount and free training during September.

The opening night, will see a number of free events including a display of Kuk Sool with high-ranking black belts performing.

For those aged five to 65 who want to experience Kuk Sool for themselves there will be a ‘try it and see’ session. And to round off the evening, Maxine will conduct a Catwoman body conditioning class.

Doors open at 6.30pm. For further information call 01323 416634 or 07540 179194 or visit the website at: [www.martialartsbexhill.com](http://www.martialartsbexhill.com)
