Chopping wood to improve power.

I have heard that George Forman and other old school boxers chopped wood to improve their power. Have any of you tried this? if so,were you happy with the results? How often should you do this to get the maximum benefit out of it? Thanks in advance.

It’s a good way to develop incredible cardio and power. It’s good for power because to chop wood efficiently, you have do the same things that an efficient striker does because you are relatively loose until a hard contraction at the moment of impact. I beat the hell out of a tire filled with sand with a sledge hammer a couple times a week. It’s a good workout.

Reminds me of something my old roommate once told me. He’s a golfer, played on some pretty good courses and was the PGA pro for a club in Dallas for a long time. What he said was something to the effect of “swinging a bat, swinging a club, and throwing a punch are basically all the same movement and translate into each other real well, because you require the same body mechanics & coordination of the feet, hips, and arms”

This may not be true for all types of punching, especially styles that use different types of fah jing.
