I have an opportunity to train with a Vale Tudo guy (Mike Rangel of Vale Tudo Rangel Team based in San Antonio just in case). I checked out the class tonight and it was very cool. The styles are BJJ, Judo, Sambo, Greco & Freestyle wrestling, Western-style boxing and Muay Thai. He has trained with Carlos Machado, Pedro Sauers, Guy Mezger, Pete Williams, John Lewis and Tito Ortiz.
Now keep in mind that I haven’t the slightest clue about this kind of fighting. There is nothing here in town to compare it to. The instructor has a terrific philosophy about teaching. Based on the info I have given, what do you think? Any read flags go up?

I don’t know too much about the guy you mentioned, but the names he has worked with are all legitamate and highly skilled individuals. I’ve personally trained with Carlos Machado as well and he’s a phenomonal fighter and teacher.
I’d say to go for it! You’ll have some very good training it sounds like. If you’ve already checked him out, and you like the philo behind his skills you should definitely go. Just keep safe, and don’t think that you’ve got to be “killed” to learn.

Let me see if I can fish around for any info on the actual guy you mentioned. Sounds very legit. There may be some other grapplers here who have some info too.
