In a recent topic that I posted about my tendons, you mentioned a tiger set that you do to help warm up your forearms and perhaps even strengthen tendons.

Might you be able to describe this set to me? Or are there any good books out there that feature some good warmups?

Thanks for any info.

herring

You stretch your arms straight in front of you. You pull your palms back, till as close as possible to perpendicular or better.

Then, you straighten (kinda an active stretch) and close your fingers repeatedly, keeping your palm pulled back the whole time. If you are like me, you will probably find the extensors start to cram after about 20 of these.

In the more MA related set… you do 10 of these and then you move your hands to the side, and repeat 10 times, and then put your arms into the sky and repeat 10 times. The sky one is an absolute killa !

I found that years later, when I already quit MA, I was walking to a crag with a friend, and he was doing a similar thing and I asked him, hey what are you doing ? He said, warming up

Hope you find that useful. Sorry if my explainations are not clear. Let me know, i will try explaining better

Thanks for the info prana.

I really appreciate it, I can feel my arms burning

Just one quick question though:
When I am opening and closing my hands, should I open to a palm(ala palm strike) and close to a fist or tiger claw. I tried both, and the tiger claw feels better, but just wanna make sure I got everyhting right.

This exercise makes my forearms feel so good.

Thanks!

no problems.

  1. To a tiger claw, or panther (??) I forget now what is what…
  2. Did you say you were a climber too ? Cause it is really awesome for the extensors, and the reaching for the sky one, is really good for actively stretching climbing antagonistic muscles in the shoulders and back.

Anyway, train hard

Yep I am a climber

I believe panther is like an eagle claw only with the fingers and thumb pulled in. Maybe I am think ing of something else. Oh well
