It can be hard to get any real power from that if you don’t know how. If you are going to do that, you may as well justr uppercut him.
* A structured boxing hook, this is effective when close is because it is such a powerful punch, but it is important not to telegraph this punch
try to be in a position where your hands ore up, palms open, a little below shoulder level, like if you were raising your hands and saying “I don’t want to fight you” you will look unagressive to him, but your hands will be in a good place to throw the hook.
* A knee to the groin , this may get the crowd against you though so use with caution
it doesn’t matter if the crowd is against you, but don’t rely on groin strikes; In a high adrenaline situation, you sometimes will not feel it until after the fight.
* Try to hold a firm stance, this means you will not end up pon the ground as easy, and if you are slugging it out, you will be able to deliver more poweful punches because you are grounded properly
be firm, but stay moving and attacking. if you are too firm, you may actually make it easier for him to take you down.
* Also , if you are good at kicking, go for a push-kick as he is about to charge at you , but only if you know you will not fall over
screw a push kick, it’s a fight, not the ring or sparring. you don’t want to take the chance that his charge may knock you off balance. If he’s rushing you with a punch and you can’t strike before him, then sidestep - get out of the way. moving out of the way and to some angle will give you better options for stiking him without sudden retaliation anyway.
* Some good roundhouse muay-thai style kicks always do damage to ribs and legs and will probably also frighten your opponent as he realises you are trained and ( hopefully) conditioned
Nothing always works. after two years of MT, most guys I spar hurt their own legs when they tried to leg kick me. you can build up somewhat of a tolerance to it. And some people naturally have that tolerance. I’m not saying don’t use it, only that you shouldn’t expect it to always work. that goes for the ribs also.
Against a wall
* Also getting your hands behind his head with your elbows down whilst kneeeing him will work ( common in kickboxing)
If you’re the one against the wall, that won’t work too well - you won’t have any power. you will have to fight yourself at least several inches away from the wall first.
* Blitzing on the ground seems to be effective for some reason
can you clarify that one? I’m not sure what you mean
* Kicking, especially with your shins
while you’re on the ground?? where is your opponent?
* Elbows if you are entangled are good aswell
If you’re on top. from the bottom, you won’t get much power out of it.
