Iron forearm: roller bar method

I'm seeing what anyone knows, seeing the lack of info on the web, about the roller bar method of iron forearm.

Before I put something up for peoples benefit. I want to see what people are doing or know about this form of "iron forearm".

Its always been kind of a strange for iron forearm as its the least used part of your bridge arm. I know its a good benefit for praying mantis fighters as is strengthens not only your guard but the muscles YOU use in punching.

This is probably one of the most painful gung training you can do, but i'm not in love with the method. I think its counter productive to developing other skills as its going to develop a adaptation/edurance skill over time.

As far as what you do with the skill, I dont have much info. What i've compiled leans towards the mantis style. For instance, you can trap an incoming punch and break the arm with a good roller bar skill.

As far as bouncing knives on your forearms, I think thats kind of cheesy, deceptive (because there are herbs used to toughen the skin) and useless.

I personally prefer banging the back of the forearm and elbow against a tree or post. :)

Please Describe

Is this exercise done with both arms stretched in front of you while you slowly roll a weighted bar forward and back atop both forearms?

Have you tried wearing steel rings as well? This is another form of arm conditioning but you definately need to apply Dit Da Jow for both training methods. If not, the constant rubbing of the rings (and the weighted bar mentioned earlier) as they run up and down your forearms will tear your skin and muscles apart.

roller bar or the bambo pole.

this will give you some conditioning on the top, but there is also a bottom roller bar in my system (ykm) for seip kuil or slicing techniques. as they all help condition, the first roller bar top of the forearm, helps to transfer chi down the arm and build shoulder/ribs and back muscles.
whilst the bottom will help sink and transfer the chi on the bottom of the forearm.

when doing the roller bar on top you should start light then add. also when training the mind and muscles have to be relaxed and the use of light power is trained.

you can use the bambo ring as well for forearm conditioning.

i hope this helps. :D

hi valraven!!

how to make the bottom roller bar!

get a steel or iron piping have a stand on both sides put the bar across both and roll your forarm back and forth.

as it gets more conditioned have a wall bag attatched to the wall and hit and roll the forarm then punch the ball bag keeping contact with the the roller bar. this is like counter punching over someone elses punch but teaches you to sink(chum) whilst hitting your opponent at the same time. it will develop sensitivity along the bottom of the arm.

that is a basic way of making it or if you have a weilder you can have someone make a good one that can adjust the stand higher and you can use it for upper roller bar like comming under a punch, so you have lifting (fou).

there are others as well!

hope this helps, happy new year everyone... :D

hi buby
there is alot more to just rolling the bambo for conditioning. at a basic level yes but it develops a faster punch builds shoulder and back strenght. :)

Roller Bar

Yes, I've seen this exercise in a Qigong book at Barnes & Noble. It is done sitting in a horse or other stance with controlled breathing. You alternate rolling the bar on both sides of the arms.

Could you please tell me the length of the roller and the recommended diameter? And any other particulars you can think of.
