i have a very good friend in chengdu that i hope is ok. but its hard enough to get in touch with her when there isnt a natural disaster. i guess i will just have to wait until she replies to my email. if the interwebs are even working there after this.

Too much Yang

China's been getting hit hard as of late, floods, earthquakes, higher rates for call girls and massage parlours !
Stop the insanity !

On a serious note, how quickly did emergency services get to work?

My friends from Chongqing and Zigong (near Chengdu) say everything is mostly ok there. The rains are making it difficult for rescue workers and relief to get through though. CNN reported that the roads are in really bad shape too (and they weren't great to begin with).

The last big quake was Tang Shan big quake.

There is a movie and monument for it. At the time, the news from mainland China was difficult to get.

--

It was very sad. I donated my money to Red Cross in Taipei, Taiwan. I was in high school. I grew up in Taiwan, I practically felt earthquake just about every year.

--

Hopefully, 30 years later, with technology and everything, rescue and relief efforts would be better and faster to reach those in need. even thou, this time is in a remote country side of China.

I heard that

the 15th army airborne unit dropped some paratroopers on ground zero of the epi center of wen chuan area. They set up a com center. Rains prevented more paratroopers to be be airdropped.

on the land, there are 500 PLA elite soldiers travel on foot to get into wen chuan area, since all the roads and bridges are destroyed.

as days go by, rescue of survivors become more and more critical

--

relief supplies from Taiwan, already landed on Cheng Du. Ironically, the last time, the planes left Cheng Du for Taipei was among military retreat in the face of Deng xiao Ping, Liu Bo Cheng and Chen Yi army approaching.

--

China agreed to Japan's offering search and rescue teams

China did not take any other assistance from other countries so far.
