Nice thorough job of looking through that list.
I just put it on there for the fact that I am obsessed with Bridgette Lin, but I would still consider it a kung fu movie, I guess it would fall into the wuxia genre, but deadful melody(B. Lin, Y. Biou) is one of my favorite movies also, but my favorite part about that movie is the music, I love the story and the action, but sometimes music steals the show for me.
If I ever get the chance to ask Bridgette if she considers it a kung fu movie, I will go with her answer, and everybody else will have to accept it. I don't care if I'm the only person on this site who doesn't know kung fu, but I will Not accept anyone going against the word of Bridgette LIn. OOOOHHHH BRIDGETTE AAAHHH

I watched the bride with white hair movies again and the the 1st 1 is definitely one of my favorite kung fu flicks, the action doesn't have to show perfect swordplay or anything, but it is INTENSE, and brigitte lin is better than ever, and it is really cool to see her with the white hair the whole movie in #2, I almost liked it better than the 1st, but the 1st is away better movie.

Also you mentioned magic crane and was watching that before work today, that IS INSANE. If anybody loves inframn and godzilla and stuff like that, this is kinda like that, just not quite as good of action as godzilla(god I'm such a geek). i would definitely agree with you though that this is really not a kung fu movie. But if brigitte lin was in it I'm sure I would have considered it a top 20 movie for me.

Jethro....I was also going to comment on "one armed boxer" which is on your list but decided to leave it alone. In my opinion, this movie is sooo bad, it's good. "Yoga" portrayed as a martial art.....that was hillarious/strange.

As far as asian actresses go, Maggie Cheung has been a favorite of mine for like the last decade or so. I don't know if you've ever seen Green Snake but this is also another movie where the soundtrack practically steals the show. It's a fantasy movie from about 1994 directed by Tsui Hark. It's visually beautiful. The whole movie plays almost like a music video from beginning to end.

The pilot for the "Kung-Fu" television series with David Carradine is also one of my favorites. I recently bought the first season on DVD and enjoy watching the episoides with my wife. The martial arts action is not good at all by today's standards but the stories are good and I love the wisdom and the philosophy of Shaolin as portrayed in the series. Master Po is one of my favorite movie mentors/teachers, like Mr. Miyagi or Yoda.

Has anyone seen "A Killer's Romance" ? It's a really good action/modern martial arts movie. Good story too.

Some other favorites of mine:

Avenging Eagle- good story
A Hard Way to Die- filmed in Arizona, kind of a Kung-fu western

In short, I'm a huge old school fan. I'm not as crazy about the newer Wushu/everyone defies gravity type movies like Crouching Tiger.

My Sifu was showing me a movie yesterday when I went to his house to train. It was called Pride's Deadly Fury (although he said it's been released under different names) and the reason he was showing it to me is because it had authentic Bagua in it, as well as some other styles. I've been looking for this movie online to buy it, but so far no luck. If anyone knows where I can get it, please let me know. Thanks.

Oab 1

Anthony, I think that you are thinking of Master of the flyign guillitine, which I would also consider a kung fu movie. I can't remember if the first OAB had a yoga guy in it, It had a lot of Japanese and 2 shaolin monks(yes the inflatable one) and also a lung fei with wierd hair and fangs. I know that I am turnign you off of this movie, but it is truly one of the best stories of the genre. It tells the story of how Wang Yu lost his arm and then invented this fighting style where you get knocked down, and you don't even have to move to get back up. I love master of the guillitine(OAB 2) because of the story and the fighting techniques. It isn't up to par in choreography with some other classics. But the fact that it is slower is an advantage in my opinion because you can see the form that the thai boxer uses or the style the master of guilline uses(taekwondo).

I like maggie cheung also, but mainly for hero, and yeah she is a wowser.

Replying to myself in case it's of interest to anyone. I just found out on another forum that the alternate titles for Prides Deadly Fury are "The Honor of Dongfang Xu" or "Wulin zhi".

Btw, anyone know a good site online to buy obscure kungfu movies?

legend of a fighter

Just to clear this up, I posted like 70 movies as my favorite ever, but I decided just to list my single fav ever. I just got Legend of a fighter after not seeing it in almost 10 years. I have now seen it 4 times in 6 days, I think I need to step it up and make it a daily ritual. The story is easily the best I have ever seen in execution in a old school kung fu movie. It literally hits on all cylinders.

I also got 36th chamber, return, and disciples, and I have to say that the picture quality is the best I have ever seen for one of these Shaw Bros movies, I need to quit spending $3-$7 on these movies and step it up. I will look for the RED SUN label on all DVD's that I buy now. It also had a SHAW BROTHERS logo on it and it said SHAOLIN COLLECTION on it. I highly suggest you look for these for the remastering job alone. By the way the LEgend of a fighter movie I got was only about 90% picture quality, dubbed, 87 min. long(can't remember if it was longer), the case also said it had deleted footage, interviews, trailers, original language, and 5.1 sound. It had none of these. I am actually not dissapointed because Legend is my favorite movie ever. Now on the other hand the Master Killer series had everything that it said it had, including original language track and acceptable subtitles.

'above the law' not really a kung fu movie in the classic mold, but isn't it fun to watch Seagall go full tilt on a room full of guys? lmao

Anthony I gotta agree with you, I popped my video of one-armed boxer in after not seeing it in a long while and you are absolutely right. This is certainly cheese at it's finest. The yoga guy running around everywhere is hilarious. ONE-ARMED BOXER IS RECOMMENDED FOR ANY FANS OF JIMMY WANG YU, better than rage of the master at least. OH bleep, it's midnight, I'm off, you're lucky, I was gonna repost every thread on here.

Do you know who is in Pride's deadly fury and when it was made?

Ebay has some good deals, it is just kind of hit and miss, I just recieved my copy of killer clans for 3.99, and it has 5.1 sound, AND IS A CELESTIAL RELEASE with a bey logan commentary and many special features. Man I thought red sun was a good restoration company but killer clans was TRUE crystal clear picture. The dvd didn't say celestial on the internet, but it didn't even say it on the dvd, so it is VERY hit and miss, but with ebay you will ALWAYS be able to find what you are looking for cheap after searching through everyone's stores. Shaolin vs. lama is another good example, 99 cents and 2.99 for shipping, buddha bless you.

I know i said i won't post on here anymore till im going to school, but im a liar and lazy, but still looking I guess you could say..., seriously

But I saw avenging eagle and anthony I gotta say that it was pretty freaking good. I got a VERY good picture of this movie and the movie itself was very good. I certainly was not expecting the ending, but that just made it better. I like movies where you can't just watch it and instantly put in another one. You really have to pause and think about what happened. The kung fu was pretty good, and the weapon work was better I guess. The shaws didn't bring out a ton of new weaponds or nothing but that movie just had a certain style that I liked. Stupid story, but well told.

I loved Ku feng's character. The way that he went to go sit in that chair at the end. I like the way that he sat there and a henchman brought a box but didn't open it. And when ti and alexander finally made it to him, then he puts on the iron claws. It is little touchews like that that I love. So thank you for recommending that and I have a question for you. That didn't seem to be a part of the whole ku lung novel series done mainly by chor yuen, but was still the same style as those(EVERYBODY OUT FOR THEMSELVES). Is this right? Cause some of the characters actually good people in eagle. This one though is done by toing gai, and I think that the only other thing that he did was shaolin prince, which I highly recommend if you want a lighter story.

And does anybody know if the 13 cold blooded eagles is any good, why am i asking I live iron robe yim

sha po lang with donnie yen: donnie at his best, great story, great actors, and the guy in white is the next jet li.

Fearless: some critics say jet li looks slower in this film, but those who criticize are ones who already have there minds void. great fight scenes, yeun mo ping is a genius. the "lost tracks" style really interested me.

36th Chamber, Deadly Venoms, Challenge of the Masters, Shaolin and Wutang, Drunken Tai Chi, Shaolin Chasity Kung Fu, Hells Windstaff are all classics.

couldnt leave out the matrix trilogy. the first one is what got me interested in kung fu all together.
