Your favorite move or moves in your style
So I was in the other forum, they were talking about fighting with Ba Gua or Tai Chi.
Nobody was arguing Xing Yi since the 5 elements fists are apparent. The thread was talking about how many people were only talking about Ba Gua and Tai Chi but cannot fight or with no basic skills at all. Indirectly hinting that Tai Chi and Ba Gua are not good for fighting at all. Then I think of just one move in each style. 1. Penetrating or piercing palms. They can be done at a triple set or as many times as you want. In old time, people are "troubled" by the triple penetrating palms or San Chuan Zhang. 2. Ban Lan Chui or flower canon fist Wu Hua Pao in Tai Chi. They both have defense and offense built in. So the question is that what is your fav move or moves and why?

My point in the other forum was that I only need to name one move in each style.
If you drill the move and know the apps inside out, you may use the move to fight. Sort of counter the thread claiming that Tai Chi and Ba Gua are not for fighting. ---

This thread was intended for every one to mention his or her most favorite move or moves.
Anyhoo, yes, you may attack, attack and attack. You may also yield three times by moving back, moving to the left and moving the right. 99% percent of the time, you will be defending or neutralizing against the opponent's moves and counter attack. Your countermoves are also in turn neutralized by the opponent. Once there is an opening, your attack move will land. So most of the time, neutralization and counterattack/countermoves are going on in turn between you and your opponent. --- So which is more important? attack, attack and attack. or neutralization (defense) and counter attack. ---

Penetrating palms in Ba Gua.
It may be used to get close to the opponent on the high, mid or low levels. It may be used to get inside and outside of the opponent's arm or indoor and outdoor. You may point the fingers forward or upward. You may assume a vertical (palm facing the left or right side) or horizontal palm (palm facing downward). Your rear hand may go forward below the forward hand. The other hand is close to the elbow of the forward hand etc. --- Chuan Zhang is widely used in many palm sets. Chuan Zhang may also start from low level with squatting stance and upward. You may also use the upper arm or shoulder to Kao. It then becomes Chuan Kao Zhang. --- On and on.

Shuto-uchi (Te-gatana). Good for the opponents head and shoulders.

8-Step Mantis' Shao Twei- really neat foot sweep! 8-Step Mantis' Bai Lien- swinging kick. 8-Step Mantis' hand- I really like the mantis hand- it's just so cool! Xingyi's Pi Chuan- sooo good- can be used in ANY situation. Good thread S

I know Xingyi wasn't mentioned in the question, but I really like the punch from Horse. Just one of those moves that seemed to land very naturally for me, and it's hard to see coming.

hmmm, so many faves, so hard to choose...
1) Fierce tiger Overpowers the Wolf-agressive,right down your throat and if it is counteed, can go right into 2) Single Tiger Exits the Cave-which uses a counter trap and renews the attack 3) Iron Door Jam-and any other variation of Bik Kiu-crash through, no time to sit back and defend, crash, penetrate, seek and destroy-similar to Pi Chuan 4) Beggars' Hands-goes into double Tiger Claws-very similar to Pi-Chuan (Pek Kuen?) 5) Butterfly Palms-can be broken down into so many techniques, anywhere along the circle, starts a new technique. Traps, joint locks, sweeps, etc all contained within this move. 6) Been, Sow, Gwa, Kup, Jik (or chop) close your eyes and go!

fav ma move?
if i were to choose one technique, it would be the northern shaolin sidekick. Its fast, its powerful, it has decent defence and quick recovery. Not to mention its one of the most devistating standing kicks in all martial arts, if you get a genuine opportunity to connect correctly.

Favorite moves?
1. Tenchi-nage (heaven and earth throw) from Aikido, which happens to be very similar in application to Hsing-i's Pi Chuan. 2. Beng Chuan from Hsing-i, which happens to be very similar to Aikido's Tsuki technique, but with more aggressive forward energy. Is it cheating to choose techniques that apply to either style? They're both my favorite techniques regardless of which art I'm practicing at the moment. |
