Hey im in NyC and i was wondering if anyone new any good schools for wing chun...also if u have any suggestions as to exercises i could do to sort of 'prepare' myself for starting... any info is greatly appreciated...

I would suggest trying the New York branch of the American Wing Tsun Organization. They teach both traditional Wing Tsun as well as more progressive programs such as their anti-grappling and counters against kickboxers, etc...
