ATTN UK ppl: Monkey! on tv

I was looking for Monkey! on the net for a Christmas present and then found this: -

"STOP PRESS! Monkey returns to UK terrestrial TV in 2003!
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Monkey will return to UK terrestrial TV in January 2003, after an absence of over 17 years.
Monkey will be returning to your screens on Channel 4 on Fridays at 11.30pm from mid-January 2003. Channel 4 plan to screen the first season of 13 episodes with the option to screen the remaining 39 if the ratings are good, so give it your support!

You heard it here first - now spread the word... "

Thankyou, Lord!

-David

I have the Water Margin on vid - it is utter crap. I'm embarrassed I ever could watch the fight-scenes

Monkey fight scenes (and there are a lot of em) are much better.

All You Need To Know About monkey!

It's a 1970's Japanese serialisation of a Chinese myth. The script is amazing and humourous.

"The story of Monkey! is very loosely based on a 16th century Chinese book, Journey To The West by Wu Ch'eng-en, which is a collection of stories about the real-life journey of Hsuan Tsangof, a 7th-century monk.

In Wu Ch'eng-en's stories, the Monk, Tripitaka, embarks on the pilgrimage from China to India accompanied and protected by Monkey, Sandy and Pigsy, each a symbol of different types of human nature. Their task is collect Buddhist scriptures from India, and return them to China for translation"

It's a good story :-)

Here's one site Monkey Magic and here's the lowest quality (fastest download) of the intro to the programme from that site.
The same intro as a movie -1.4MB

Here's another site with a fight scene avi file on it.

Get the book here.

Can't find a t-shirt anywhere...

The monk (Tripitaka) in the series was a guy played by a female actor. I didn't realise how pretty she was - or that she'd died: -Masako Natsume
The main site is Monkey Heaven.

The lyrics to the title track are here.

Monkey is Funky

More movie clips

Any more questions ;-)

Monkey shows on Thursday nights Channel 4 @11:35pm

Luckily, I called a mate to tape it for me :-)
