I think some members of the International Hoplology Society have documented their training in Malaysia. The guys in the book written by Draeger are still pretty active. Check out the IHS's homepage if you're interested in any documentation.

A different inquiry on the subject of Chuka Shaolin
I was wondering if anyone who is extremely educated in the Chuka Shaolin Phoenix Eye Fist Kung Fu would be interested in sending me information on it? I will be obtaining a copy of Cheong Cheng Leong' s book, but wish to know more about current teachings or students of the art. In particular if it is being taught anywhere in the world today, and in what manners (ie: partly used/taught in a Kung Fu school)
This information will possibly be used by myself in a manuscript and I would like the most possible accuracy before I can write it. Thanks Desiree Last edited by desireephoenix; 05-04-2007 at 08:40 AM. |

I have a copy of the book you mentioned, excellent! It goes into the history of Chuka Shaolin and teaches a couple of short forms. Worth getting!

healing side of chu ka
hi Eric,
Doesn't GM Cheong have a sihing/sipak that just concentrated on the healing aspects of chu ka who developed it to a high degree. Is the healing side of chu ka still being taught & practiced???.BTW the work that you are doing asRE to the gathering is GREAT. cheers hakka jai

Hi and thank you Ericling,
I have been looking through the book, and have found the history of Chu-ka to be very interesting as I had wondered where it had originated and enjoyed the history of each person down. The nun and two sisters was quite fascinating (going out and watching insects and animals and returning to show the nun), and I have discovered a profound amoung of coincidences to Phoenix Eye Fist Kung Fu in many different levels as the research continues. The You Tube link is also wonderful and I was wondering if this footage was personally obtainable? I'd like to know more on how Phoenix became the name used for the fist and its connection to the legendary Phoenix bird. Knowledge however, is never ending, and I hope to continue to learn more. If I am fortuante enough to meet GM Cheong Chen Leong and travel to Malaysia I will do so (in September) In closing, I thank you again for this vast knowledge, and in case I do not get the chance to meet GM Cheong Chen Leong and anyone here does, please send my regards to him about his book. |

Chu Ka
Master Cheong seems to be a true modern fighting master. I haven't met him but I trained under Donn Draeger and Quintin Chambers who knew him slightly. They both had great respect for him, and they were practitioners of Chinese arts themselves(Quintin still is). I heard something once about Cheong being the sole deterrent to pirates in his area. If you have a chance to be in his presence and listen to his stories you are blessed.
