Were you guys taught to keep your feet pointing forward, or that your toes could go out a bit.

I was taught toes forward, but a few people have told me they were taught otherwise.

****, I should have made this a poll :)

Forward from one Sifu, out from another. :(

forward. You have a more solid stance this way, but I know people who were taught outward. Outward places less stress on the knees.

Forward. I've heard that toes pointed out was called 'Toilet Bowl Stance' by Master Pan.

i use toes forward but for the main form im studying(Lau Gar Kuen) we are taught that your forward foot faces forward(toward opponent) and your back foot is straight out and staggered out from your front foot...so when you transition from horse to bow...you're in a good bow. But we're always taught knees over toes...which is something I see not done by many people. So i dont know?

Forward!
Three & a half moves out, ie. toes, then heels, then toes, then just a touch with the heels to straighten the feet until the feet point forward.
I'm sitting in a horse stance not an elephant stance ;-)
This is of course only the way we do it, many styles have a wider stance, but still toes forward!
I agree with Paledragon though, toes over knees,
You should be able to feel the stretch in the outside of your ankles.

cheers
