Petition for US Team Recognition (http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/475102458 )
hey guys, the petition I've organized for US wushu team recognition is ending in TWO days, we've been really successful, over 450 signatures already. I'd like to get as many as possible, so if you haven't signed it yet, please do!
Its an online petition asking the International Wushu Federation to recognize the US Wushu Taolu team selected by the USAWKF Board of Directors to be the team allowed to go to the World Wushu Games.
I encourage everyone to go read it and sign up, it only takes about 30 seconds!
ps - some discussion on the subject and background was given here -

Raffi who is going to be on your San Shou team?

well its not "my team," lets get that straight first.
But regardless, let me just say that I'm not exactly sure what sort of discussions have happened between Shawn Liu and the rest of the USAWKF Board of Directors about Sanshou.
But if I had to guess, as there was only one sanshou trials, and therefore only one sanshou team selected, it seems that there is no controversy over the sanshou contingent that would go to the games this year.
So while you could say that 'it doesn't matter to sanshou people' - The larger issue is whether you want to work under a system that Goh runs, ie a dictatorship where procedures and bylaws are ignored, judging is biased, trials are apparently rigged to help his friends out or you want to work under a board that follows the rules and holds fair events? And keep in mind that this problem now could become a major obstacle as we get closer to 2008!

So who's going to be on "the" san shou team?
Merciless is Mercy.

it would appear that the team is the following:
Name Weight (kg)
Albert Pope 56 - 60
Elan Schwarz 60 - 65
Max Chen 65 - 70
Rudi Ott 70 - 75
Ray Neves 75 - 80
Boris Yurganov 56 - 60
Santos Sato 60 - 65
Han Chung 65 - 70
Julio Trujillo 70 - 75
Julio Trujillo 75 - 80
Robert Prichett Super Heavy Wt.
It is for the USAWKF team. There is not really a problem with the Sanshou Team.
It was with the Taolu team and the selection criteria.
In a nutshell...and tell me if this does not sound at least a bit fishy:
Anthony Goh was voted off of the board of the USAWKF and refuses to step down. He held his team tryouts and the board held theirs. The board's were in Berkley and Gohs were in Baltimore.
The board's allowed for the old and new compulsory routines (important since the standard materials such as videos and books were out for only a few weeks.)
The Baltimore Team Trials rules were put together by Lu Xiaolin. She stipulated that ONLY the new compulsories were allowed. She was one of the first coaches in the US to learn and teach these routines at her school. Fishy #1
At the Team Trials, videotaping by competitors for their own records was forbidden. The reason given was that the evnet was taping and that their copy would be available. The only reason anyone wanted to tape was for proof in case of arbitration of judging. Fishy #2
There were some very obvious problems in judging and political scoring....but of course trying to appeal these without video proof is next to impossible. Fish #3.
Lu Xiaolin as organizer was spending time with the judges in judges' meetings during the event when scores were being deliberated. This is highly illegal. Fishy #4.
Lu Xiaolin selected all of the judges and the head judge for the event....and had many students in the competition. Conflict of interest big time....Fishy #5.
There were the A, B, and C teams. The A Team goes unless someone can't...then you start taking people from the B...then the C....
There are 8 Taolu Team members. Out of the competitors, there were a number who were on the Team in 1999 and are still quite good. others who have been known to consistently beat Lu Xiaolin's students in other events....
Out of the 8 A Team members, 6 were from Lu Xiaolin's school and her students. Fishy #6 _ See Inside Kung Fu on the newstands now for these 6 people.
The petition is to ask the IWuF to support the Board of Directors in getting Goh to abide by their vote to impeach him.
It is driven by the fact that since the inception of the USAWKF, the organization was supposed to be an umbrella organization where SanShou, Taolu, Taijiquan, Traditional Kung Fu, etc... would have a common bond and it was supposed to promote them all and build upon common ground and get things working together in the US. He has consistently divided people, caused Traditional and Modern Wushu people alike to abandon the organization. Ignored just about every faction, done nothing but ask for money and then tell everyone how the org is in debt...but produce no financial statements to back it up....
So, the idea of the petition is that if things are to get better and have a chance at being run fairly for all, Goh has to leave.
Most recently, his group put out a letter that accused several key people of improprieties...but with nothing to go on. This letter was in the guise of a new organization to promote Chinese Martial Arts. However, the letter on it was ONLY in Chinese - thus adding into the mix racism and prejudice... a further example of poor leadership on his part.

Just send in the BJJ team and they will destroy the entire kung fu organization.

- I've met you pal, and you're about as hispanic as I am Asian! (see my profile.)
It was perfectly OK for you to go to the Team Trials and try to get a spot on the team.
Ask any of the San Shou folks around here about it.... You can't take it all the way to the mat but you can throw people off the fighting stage...surely that would not be too hard for any JJ person.....:)

maybe a judo specialist would be more suited for sanshou, since they focus more on the throws and less on submissions then jiujitsu fighters?
well the point is that any one can enter, no matter their background as long as they follow the rules.
Shoot a BJJ person could even try out for the taolu team! ... provided he or she knows the international compulsories. ;)

We've almost reached the 500 signature milestone!
But I just wanted to let everyone know that the World Wushu Games have been reschedule (as of yesterday) to the beginning of November.
So as soon as this petition closes tomorrow, I'm going to be faxing them over to China.

I'm Just glad I'm involved with the San Shou. At least only one team will show up. I kind of doubt that it will happen then either. It is even more likely that we are going to be at war by then. The US state department issued a strong warning to any Americans traveling abroad and ony two of the San Shou team members are still willing to go. I would not want to be in the region and literatly be wearing an American flag. I heard of one potential plan to more it to Shanghi sometime next year but a long shot there.
"Information is power"
China announced today new dates for the event to be held in Armenia ....
And the dates are in ....
NOVEMBER THIS YEAR.
If the region is dangerous now. It will STILL be dangerous 8 weeks from now. The reasons behind postponing, whether you agree with them or not, were based upon the region being too close to a hot zone.
This has not changed and in all likelihood is only going to get worse before it gets better.
Stay tuned for As the Competitor Gets Put in Harms Way ---- a new soap opera.

At war with who? Is the warning a general one to all Americans travelling abroad?

Is this the world championship in Armenia?
If so the BCCMA (British Council of Chinese Martial Arts) is not even going to send a team due to the chance of death by muslim suicide "marter"

There is no info on the foreign office website about anything particularly bad happening in Armenia. Doesn't sound like fun though.
Yeah, the whole thing is over and done with. I heard the turnout was horrible overall, but the US team that did go(Goh's team) won some medals. Of course because of the crappy turnout and the politics there's allways going to be a big * next to this one. It's too bad :-(
