No matter how hard I try, I often wind up arching my back when doing pushups. Could somebody please give me some advice on how I can overcome this habit? Thanks in advance.

Build you core strength (back, abs, hips). This is what keeps you stiff as a board.

I don't get mad.
I get stabby.

To do conventional push ups it is necessary.
If we are talking variations like divebombers or hindus, that is a different story.
