freestyle choy lee fut

i was wondering, do any of the gung fu people, specifically the CLF people, practice free style choy lee fut? by this i mean do you or have you just instantly come up with techniques randomly, not from stuff from the forms, but stuff that comes from your choy lee fut soul?


its a great feeling when you can just flow and flow and flow without mistake pausing, or not knowing what to do.

can you perform publicly with your freestyle gung fu and not reveal that you are making it up right on the spot?

if so, i want to know if we can get a thread going where people post vids of themselves doing freestyle choy lee fut.

if someone else posts a vid, i will post a vid.......but it has to be completely unrehearsed!

I don't do CLF but I train in my stepdads workout room and my 17 year old brother was drinking with his little hooligan friends watching me hit the bag...I been watching yall backfist rear palm to chin combo followed with the sow...i was doing the backfist/palm in bow stance and the one kid peed himself...this was cool cuz i had only done this combo with your guys footwork like ten times within the last minute...kids like oh that work so good the palm, yeah...I'm like word it's CHOY LI FUT!!! :)

in kaido's hopgar we got double overheads...right side bow, shuffle to left side bow and left backfist followed by right overhead...you shuffle up and down your hall repeating...two hits one shuffle...both feet land at same time like you slam dunk the mofo.

Oh, absolutely. When I started teaching here most of my students were karate and tang soo do practitioners who couldn't flow with combos. They could only do the jerky block-punch routines. No matter what else they wanted to learn, I started them out on choylay buddha and they went nuts with it. It made me realize that it's possibly the best system I've ever seen for learning freestyle combinations and how to flow between techniques. Several of my students told me it got them past stagnant periods of their development. And now, for some reason, they don't teach tang soo anymore.

This is an interesting question. I was once visiting some of my in-laws and they introduced me to a relative who they said was a CLF practitioner from Hong Kong. As we spoke a bit, I learned that he trained very hard every day in the style. This made me wonder what he worked on. I asked him what he worked on and how he practiced his forms....did he focus on a few forms that contained his favorite techniques, did he rotate all forms he knew for variety, did he just go by mood, etc. His answer was he doesn't practice forms. He only learned techniques in his school and worked on how to strike hard and fast along with how to time the techniques to be most effective in a fighting situation. He seemed to know his stuff. This is an example of someone that only practiced freestyle CLF.
