Pharmaceutical company representatives regularly pay visits to Western Doctors, pitching their wares in the hopes that the doctor will prescribe their brands to patients, who in turn pay through the nose for the opportunity to pop a side-effect riddled pill, often for the rest of their life.

Well, Acupuncturists can pitch to Western Doctors, too.

As of 2003, the World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes 28 diseases, symptoms or conditions for which acupuncture has been proven-through controlled trials-to be an effective treatment, and 63 diseases, symptoms or conditions for which the therapeutic effect of acupuncture has been shown but for which further proof is needed.

A quick list is available on the WHO (http://www.who.int/medicinedocs/library.fcgi?e=&a=d&c=edmweb&cl=CL2.1.1&d=Js4926e.5) website.

There is nothing stopping an acupuncturist from arranging a meeting with local MDs and using the WHO data to recommend acupuncture as a prescription for treatment. With no side-effects, often lasting results, and cost-effectiveness in the long term, it's an option every compassionate MD should have at their disposal.

Here (http://www.who.int/medicinedocs/collect/edmweb/pdf/s4926e/s4926e.pdf) is the full 87 page WHO pdf document regarding acupuncture.

Thanks for the linkage, I downloaded and printed the report and will read it. So far, there's some interesting evidence in that report that I think most Americans have no idea about whatsoever.
