hi all i was reading the human wepon thread , with interest , the arnis in which i train is a mordan arnis variaton taught to me by guro david foggie and roland dantes the movie star , guro dantes is remy preas top pupial and close friend whom recomened for me to train the basics very hard abd just do single baton, as this would help me improve , and i would be able to use the techinques . ok without my disabilatey getting in the way guro dantes teaches double baton first, then single baton, but he thought this methord would make it easy for me to learn. what i found out was wing chun uses a closed centerline arnis uses a open centerline this has helped my wing chun as well ps go to www. kelly woeden .com for photos of guro dantes and a interveiw with him peace russell sherry

Hi Russell-

In your post you mention "open" and "closed" centerline ... I do not understand what you mean. Are you referring to an open or closed stance?

thx

hi barje yes to a point , with a wing chun byjong stance , you always have elbows in guardinding, your centerline and protecting your upper gate. with arnis escrima youn open your centerline more , and draw your attacker in so to speak peace russellsherry

hi Russel-

Thx for your reply, it is clear to me now.
Do you have an explanation for the open centerline in Escrima?

Again,

There are many branches, styles of escrima and its fma subsets. Some of the footwork patterns are based on the male and female triangle as well as box stepping.

When you are using or if your system uses the male triangle, the point of the triangle is directed at the centerline of the attacker, or often called in fma the crimson center, and your triangle base is opposite. Where the female triangle works across the centerline, so your base is actually facing the attacker and your point faces away, the femal triangle is often called outside sectoring.

So yes, FMA uses the centerline principle, and it is often used to create a crash, at least how I was taught to use it, to jam the attacker using a default cover position, like a elbow shield or wedge forearm strike.

hi bartjee and thanks blackjack for you help , in the methord i was taught , if I am holding a single baton i would hold , my tick in a boxing postion like a guard with my centline facing my enermy, then i would use fma footwork to go off his centerline draw him with maybe a bicuep attack there are many different methords in arnis that use a centerline theory and as blackjack says some call it a sheild of sorts peace russellsherry ps barje go to www kelly worden .com and look at photos of my guros guro and mine as well roland dantes

Yeah, your using the female triangle to sector outside of his attack, and work in a gunting or other limb destruction. You see a LOT more female work in fma than male footwork but its there and it all works very nice.
