Its uncertain what happened since there are no gun or stab wounds on the bodies. It could have a been a gas leak for all they know now. Well, just have to wait for the coroners report.

One of the nicest guys in ANY sport.
Someone that would talk to you like he had know you forever.

I met him and trained with him and some members of the Hart Family years ago.

Horrible tragedy.

The same day Detective Bo Turner of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told television station WAGA-TV that the case was being treated as a murder-suicide, and the station reported that investigators believe that Benoit murdered his wife and son over the weekend and committed suicide sometime on Monday.

To bad he just didn't off himself. A great legacy reduced to dirt.

Not Martial Arts, so I didn't know where to post this here, but it is of interest and related to combative sports entertainment.

Pro wrestler found dead in apparent murder-suicide
Tue Jun 26, 2007 10:10AM EDT

MIAMI (Reuters) - A professional wrestling superstar, Chris Benoit, was found dead alongside the bodies of his wife and 7-year-old son and police are treating the case as a possible murder-suicide, authorities said on Tuesday.

Benoit and his wife and young son were discovered on Monday afternoon inside their home in Fayetteville, Georgia, an Atlanta suburb.

Investigators have not disclosed exactly how the three died. But Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard said investigators were not seeking any suspects outside the home where Benoit apparently took his own life after killing his wife and son.

"We're viewing it at the moment as a murder-suicide," Ballard told CNN.

"We aren't foreclosing the possibility that it might be a triple murder but our belief at the present time is that there is no killer at large," he added.

Benoit's employer, World Wrestling Entertainment, said in a statement on its Web site that he canceled two events in Texas over the weekend, citing an undisclosed family emergency.

Benoit then sent "several curious text messages" to friends early Sunday morning and this prompted authorities to check on Benoit and his family at their home, the statement said.

Nicknamed "The Rabid Wolverine" and "The Canadian Crippler," Benoit for two decades has been one of the leading international stars of professional wrestling, which presents choreographed matches involving often outlandish wrestlers.

Benoit began his career in his native Canada more than 20 years ago and wrestled in Japan before moving back to North America.

There is some talk about the fact that his wife had a history of mental disorders, and that perhaps the chain of events went; she killed the son, he killed her (in rage) then he killed himself

We don't know (may never know)

it is a sad story

Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

That ought to make a nice ending to any tribute.

Yes, from the reports he is a murderer and this is a great tragedy, this is not a question of tears for a murderer, but a question of what could drive someone to do this, to think this is an option in their life.
Someone that people have met and seen that he was a "good guy" like anyone one of us...

A great guy, a real prince.

And he wasn't just like any of us here, unless of course there are some great guys who murder their families hanging out here.

Maybe people will start looking into pro wrestling and seeing how self destructive a business it is.

Actually, pretty much everyone in the "know" knows how bad it is.
How does it feel to live in a B&W world ?

If you don't understand what I said in my post, then that is all that there is to that.

That said, one can only try to think what was going throw his mind, he killed his wife, tied her up and asfixiated her, then asfixiated their 7 year old son and THEN hours, perhaps even the next day, hung himself.

Just boggles the mind...

Sad, but all too true... (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19446194/)

You look at a baseball or football player in uniform and you can’t really see how he's built except in a general way. You look at a wrestler in his little grape-smuggler panties doing muscle poses, and you know exactly the look you’re after. A kid would start out by going to a gym, but after lifting for months and finding he still doesn’t look like Hulk Hogan, he’ll start asking other lifters with bigger pipes what the secret is.

...Congress says it cares, but it’s done nothing except slap Bud Selig around and threaten to impose testing on baseball. The game took the hint and instituted a serious testing program. You’d have thought that the protectors of the republic would then have continued the fight.
