I know that their is a deity/god/saint for almost all things in Asia/china.

What is the name of the one for Knives/swordsmith..

I guess I'm asking who is in on the altar/shrine in the sword makers shop?

Gene?:)

I stumbled across a name "Tsang Ehr" but can't find anything on this individual or even what the chinese characters might be?

help?

thanks

I've never noticed a unique altar in sword shops. I've seen Guan Gong altars in forges, but they are pretty ubiquitous everywhere. Sword shops sometimes venerate ancestral sword smiths like Ou Yezi, but I've only seen that in calligraphy, not effigy. I imagine it might be different in Dragon Well for Ou Yezi. I'm sure there's plenty of local folk deities, but that's challenging research. Tsang Er doesn't give me a lot to go on, but if anything turns up, I'll let you know.

thanks for the info Gene.

I had gotten that name from an old 1986 IKF article. And they were still using the wade giles method and it was before the ability to easily include chinese characters into the text.

Can you name some famous swordsmen of Chinese History?

I know of Wang Wu and his 9 ring Saber..

thanks

seems they are talking about

Zhan Er (Jaam Yih) who's name is used in describing the Jaam Dao (Chopping Knife). We are mostly familiar with the Jaam Ma Dao (CHoppingHorse Knife) long blade with either a short or long handle.

I was also referred to a Zhang Er of the "Demise Of Qin & Chu-Han Wars" who was a confucian scholar of the fallen "State of Wei" who later became one of the temporary kings of Zhao. (but the characters of his name are different)

Come on now. That's a huge question. There were a lot of famous swordsmen and swordswomen. Name all the famous swordsmen in British history. What a question!

Is there any translation of the meaning of that Zhan Er name? That would be a clue...

the article translates the name as

"to arrive and kills whatever it touches".

Zhan tends to be translated as "to kill, cut into two, chop".

Er could mean many things (2, son, yet/moreover, ear/handle) won't know until I can locate the character

gene: Lets keep it to Heros and not villians:D
name 5 you think are the most influential or prominent.

thanks
