Greetings,

what I'm interested in, especially in 7* but also in other Mantis branches, are the origins and developments of forms in this style.

Are there any documents or histories how forms were integrated into Mantis, from which original style they came if they were brought in from another one (history says that Mantis basically is a combination/quintessence of up to 18 other styles) and / or how they were changed during the years and why.

Especially when watching videos on YouTube, some Bung Bo look different than others, also "White gibbon steals the peach" which I learned looks different than some other "Pak Yuen Tao Tow Kuen" I've seen.

I know from another 7* Mantis Si Fu in Germany, that "Kune Nek Kuen / Qong Li Quan" in the Lee Kam Wing lineage for example is actually a Chin Woo Form, also if I remember correctly some other forms in the LKW lineage are from Chin Woo.
Further the "Fook Fu Kwan Yarn Kwan / Fu Hu Gun Yang Gun" form is a little different than other styles, from what I heard.

So, long text, short meaning: Give me everything you know about the origins and developments of forms in Mantis styles :)

I recommend you set about researching as much as you can on your own first.

Your question is answered on this forum (and others like it throughout the web) through several thousand threads.

May I suggest you spend some time reading up and then return to this thread to post your own answers?

Regards,
UM.

Thought it would be like that.
Thanks for your reply though :)

Guess when I have much spare time, I dig through all I get, and might compile all into one text, but can't promise this. yet.

I can tell you the process is a natural progression for each old master to express their philosophy on what aspect of martial ability is most salient.

Sub styles and forms are definitions of a masters interpretation of effective usage/ power generation/ strategy/ etc. (sometimes it is a culmination of several masters work.

Forms are a way to drill a certain composers emphasis on those aspects.
bung bu is expressed in many ways and for good reason
