I just got over the flu, which knocked me out of practice for a week now, my fever and digestive symptoms are gone, but I have serious congestion. Should I do some cardio to dislodge the congestion? The congestion is so bad and decongestants and vicks inhalers have had no effect at all. Let me know (TODAY)

Sleep.

Cardio in the cold at this point is probably a very bad idea. Maybe not, but what is probably better for you is eating, drinking and sleeping.

I had a head cold that later turned into a sinus infection that lingered for many weeks. Have you been to a doctor?

don't let it turn into pneumonia
take it easy and put your training on hold till you're clear of the cold
hopefully the weather will be better by then.

A good rule of thumb when you're sick is, if it's just in your head, you can probably train but take it easy. If it's in your chest, you should rest.

Seeing how you're congested, I would say rest. You could make it worse.

I know it sucks not being able to train. I was sick this week too and missed two running days. But because I rested, I"m feeling much better and I know I'll be back out there next week.

Honestly, and I'm speaking from experience, I think you should take it easy a little longer. Drink some herbal tea (tea w/echnacea is the best it'll boost your white blood cells) and definilty get some rest.I definitly wouldn't be doing any cardio outside. After resting a couple days it wouldn't hurt to break a sweat if you're doing it inside (jogging in place w/ some weatsuits on). I personally find that if I break a sweat I get better a little quicker than I would if I didn't. As I said I'm speaking from experience, the weekend before last I had the same thing. It started out as a cold/flu and because I didn't listen to my body(I kept pushing myself as I normally would) it turned into pneumonia. Let me tell you, if you think you feel like crap now, pneumonia is ten times worse. I felt like I could barely breath (because I couldn't), I had a 102.5 dgree temp, I was freezing while at the same time sweating and my body felt like I got hit by a Mac truck. I don't have insurance either and it sucks. That's why you have to make sure to take extra good care of yourself. Like I said, drink some tea w/echinacea, pop in a good flick, get some rest, and listen to your body. You'll know when you feel good enough to train. I know how much it blows to take time off, but as much time as you've already put in, you'll bounce right back to where you were. Hope you feel better brother.
