Sounds awesome. I have a few questions:
1) Are there individual coaches in each discipline, or at least the ones you don't have a lot of experience in?
2) Are the classes developed to accomodate the "hobbyist" on the low end, and serious competitors on the higher level? Or, is it for hard core people only?
4) What's the main focus in regards to both practice and marketing efforts? San Shou? Ground fighting? Judo? That is, what is the person off the street going to join and mainly see at your gym?
3) Are competitions ever held in Parks that have bike cops in them, and are there open challenges to all Kung Fu guys (Ok, this one wasn't serious)?

That's it, but hope you have good success. I'd join the gym if I lived near there. My next goal is more wrestling and Judo once/if I ever get my purple. I love the options, including yoga.

Where's Scio in relation to Columbus? And now that I think of it... is there San Shou in Columbus?

Scio is 2 hours east.

Scott Sheeley is in Bellefontaine, which I think is north west of Columbus.

1.) with the exception of Yoga, which is my wife's territory, I have experience in all these combat sports. ex. - k thru college wrestler, judo & bjj for 5 years, sanshou & muay thai for 10 years. boxing since childhood. More so than my own skill level (which i still believe has yet to peak and I'm still training to fight), I think I have an ability to teach well and transfer details and concepts in a way that people can easily understand and implement.

2.) As the gym will be starting in an area with few options to train combat sports except wrestling, It's assumed that the majority of the students will be novice. and of these, a large % will be hobbyist and that's great by me. People have many reasons for coming to a gym like this and I want them to get the opporitunity to train at their level, but also train with the concepts that can take them to the next level with little more than more time put in and conditioning. There will be an "inner circle" of people who want to go to this next level and I'm going to help them focus this interest because it's my own passion, but it will not be to the detriment of my other students.

3.) The school's focus is MMA. My goal is to teach students who are trained in all aspects of fighting. and the integration of techniques instead of compartmentalized sports. ex- muay thai one day & judo the next does not = san shou, does not = MMA. MMA = MMA. and training to strike and grapple and groundowrk and striking etc... is going to be my standard. while I myself and hopefully my students will be competing in many combat sports, the real question is, "yeah, but can you fight?"

hope that answers your questions Ralphie.

Mutant, Bring those guys on down! I've already got some huge farm boys who are having a blast training. They boxed golden gloves and have been doing bjj for the past few years.

Hey congratulations Bill! This is great news!!

You didn't mention this at the wedding. Is it a recent brainchild or were you guys holding out on me? :)

It's been a goal of mine for many years and even before we moved, we began to plan it out. Luckily everything has come together for us and we were able to lease a nice storefront location, get enough equipment for the first few months, insurance, etc. and now we're getting down to the details in preparation for Oct 3rd.

the devil is in the details..

We're excited about it. Last weekend was a local street festival and our first advertising for the school. People recieved it well and I'm happy about it. Can't wait to open the doors and get to it!

Awesome! I'm really happy for you two. (And not a little bit jealous, I might add.)

I'm looking forward to hearing how things go. Give my best to the missus.

Shaolin Tiger!!!! It's me Ralek. I got banned on Ralek for showing drawings of naked girls.

I'm going to the maryalnd bullshido.net throwdown. JF springer will be there, one of the guys i was supposed to fight a long time ago (but ne never showed). This stuff gets put up on the video's section of Bullshido.net. Be sure to check it out. I plan on kicking praying mantis ass. You moved to OHIO, that is very gay.

challenging people on the internet is gay. (kungfu guys not stepping up to beat his ass and making the combat sport guys do it is even gayer..)

How about you and I set up a MMA fight at a real event? I know many promoters on the east coast and midwest who are always looking for fighters.

I can cut down to 185-190.

OMG, that is the funnies thing i've heard all day! You cutting down to 185. lol. dont' make me laugh.

Don't worry, i won't make you cut wieght. We can fight as heavy weights. I'm 190 right now but very skinny at the moment. I would rather gain weight. Is 200 the heavy weight line? Would they care if im' a few pounds under 200?

Anyways, admittedly, the only way i'm going to be able to finish you, is if you gas out. Which i believe will happen if your anywhere near the shape you were last time. I would rather have you as heavy and fat as possible to you gas sooner.

Super "Ralek" Cool by beat down.

I'm just above 210 right now and I've probably have 20x the conditioning, and 1/2 the body fat% that I did 4 years ago when I was not training, let alone doing the 6x/week training that I do now. In fact before I even logged onto the net this morning I had run 3mi of sprints, boxed 10 rounds, and did calisthenics and yoga. I'm just resting to start the second session tonight of grappling.

so your "admittedly" screwed.

give me your contact info and I'll call a promoter. Doing anything this spring? I think a friend is having MMA fights in VA this spring. I want to get on his card and will hope to have a few of my fighters on it as well. I could make 200-205 with no problem at all, but I'd have no problem going lower. I'm very comfortable fighting at 190.

btw: if you think i'm going to stop after you tap. you're wrong. I'm taking you to unconsciousness, broken limb, KO. I was a honorable once before. and I got burned.

shaolintiger by dislocation rd: 1, 2:10 and LMAO @ you by "beatdown" the guy who ran from punches the whole day.. yeah kid, please step up and throw with me. that would be my dream! the KO would be the Sherdog KO of the Week.

I see doh boy's been exercising. However, you are remembering the 18 year Ralek(the 18 yr old version with some karate and BJJ tape training made you gas out several times). This is the 22 year old Ralek (will be 23 by the Spring). Although i'm around the same wieght, i'm much stronger.

I lift weights now, and do 45 minutes jump rope stragiht with bursts of double jumps thrown in, then single jumps while i catch my breath. But that made my shins/feet hurt so i only do 20 minutes now.

Dude, trust me, you can't cating me in a submission. And you can't hurt me if i pull guard. I'm too tall for you. It would be like Semmy Shilt vs. Fedor. Fedor might be the more dangerous striker, but he can't do anything inside Shilts guard. I had honor too and didn't open a can of whoop ass when i made you gass out.

2cd, you will gas out. Once a doh boy, always a doh boy. And look at your age? Your around like 30 years old now. Ha haha. Old man river thinks he can hang with me?

man posting is hard work. This is really cutting into my video game time. I used the techniquest of street fighter 2 turbo on super nintendo to gas you out last time. Ryu's style is good for gassing people out. he stays back and throws blue chi balls at people and doest' let them come in and start brawling. And he does shotokan karate just like i did.

Now i'd say i'm more a combination of Ryu(gassign people out), Ken (offensive attack), and Chung Li(chi balls).
